Tinder Introduces New Music Mode

Tinder has debuted a slew of new features, and the latest is Music Mode, which automatically plays a user’s chosen “anthem” in their profiles, putting music preferences front and center to attract potential matches.

According to Tech Crunch, the new feature will play your chosen song in a 30-second loop while people scan your profile. Music Mode integrates with Spotify, so when members link to their Spotify accounts and set their anthems, they will be able to access Music Mode.

The feature will be found via the company’s new Explore section which offers a more interactive dating app experience. This is where users can search people according to interests and strike up conversations immediately, do a round of virtual speed dating or attend a virtual event. Tinder is focusing on this section of the app for younger daters who want a more interesting, immersive experience on dating platforms.

How Music Mode Works on Tinder

Tinder says about 40 percent of Gen Z Tinder users have already added Anthems to their profiles since 2016 when Spotify first partnered with Tinder, and when they do, they see about a 10 percent increase in matches. With Music Mode, music is elevated to be a more integral part of someone’s profile, increasing their match chances.

Kyle Miller, vice president of product innovation at Tinder said in a press release: “Now with Music Mode, our members can experience that feeling when you’re at a party and you find out someone else loves the same songs you do. Songs are deeply personal, and Music Mode is a place to spark something new through music.”

According to The Verge, Tinder is giving users some insight into the most popular songs people set as Anthems for 2021, including Drake’s “Way 2 Sexy (with Future & Young Thug), Doja Cat and SZA’s “Kiss Me More,” and Olivia Rodrigo’s “good 4 u.”

Tinder also recently launched season two of its popular interactive series Swipe Night, which is available in the Explore section for users to watch anytime. Season two features a murder mystery at a college party where viewers can search for clues, and season one centered around an asteroid hitting the earth, challenging viewers to make choices to get to different endings of the story.

Music Mode will be rolling out to Tinder in the coming weeks to users in all markets where Spotify is available. There is no link to iTunes or other services offered as an option.
