OkCupid and AI-powered app Photoroom have partnered to introduce a new tool that helps erase your ex from your best photos.
According to OkCupid’s press release, the “Ex-Terminator” is a new feature designed to help users digitally remove their exes from photos they want to post on the dating app. Using AI technology, Photoroom seamlessly edits out unwanted people, giving OkCupid users a chance to update their profiles with new solo lifestyle.
Interested people can go to Photoroom’s website and see the promotional page with OkCupid, dubbed “Erase Your Ex.” From there, you can drop an image and Photoroom will erase your ex and deliver your photo back to upload to OkCupid. (There’s also a link to join the dating app from the site if you’re not already a member.)
According to the website, there is no limit to the number of photos you can upload to have your ex removed.
The move to provide this new feature didn’t come out of the blue. OkCupid surveyed its members and found that a whopping 62 percent of single women said they want to erase past relationships from certain pictures they really like.
According to Peta Pixel, 43 percent of those surveyed said they want to delete their exes from photos because they “don’t want to look at them,” 41 percent said it helps them get over their breakups, and only 16 percent admitted they were seeking to use the photo on a dating profile.
Respondents also overwhelmingly said they want to see individual photos of potential matches, rather than posing with other people. In fact, those with profiles of only themselves got 42 percent more likes and 25 percent more matches, according to OkCupid’s findings.
There were also differences between younger and older users of the app – younger daters tended to want to delete exes and older daters didn’t seem to mind when potential matches posted photos with their exes.
Interestingly, website Peta Pixel points out that opinions changed depending on where the respondents lived. More than half of American users, 44 percent of U.K. users, and 43 percent of Canadian users are more likely to want to delete their exes from beloved selfies, compared to German users (27 percent) and French users (29 percent).
“‘Ex-terminating’ your ex by erasing them from a good photo is set to become the summer’s hot new dating trend,” said OkCupid’s Head of Brand Michael Kaye in a statement.
Lauren Sudworth, Photoroom’s Head of Brand, added: “Whether it’s to heal and move on or to salvage a good photo, millions of folks want to erase their exes from old pictures.”
