Chispa, the dating app for Latine singles, has announced the launch of its new Advocacy Council, created to highlight important issues affecting its diverse community.
The company announced the move in a press release, saying that the Council will also be developing “actionable programs to make a positive impact in the community beyond dating.” Chispa is seeking to build a trusted community and to be a “passionate advocate for the wellness and advancement of all Latines,” according to the release.
The Advocacy Council will meet regularly to discuss important issues facing the community, and to help create initiatives around mental health, finances, education, immigration, equality, politics, and other topics.
Council members bring diverse experience to the table, from a range of backgrounds that specialize in the topics of focus for the Council, according to the company's press release. Council member Beatriz Acevedo is a Latina entrepreneur and founder of SUMA Wealth, a financial technology company dedicated to increasing financial inclusion for young U.S. Latinos. Elsa Collins is the co-founder of Poderistas as well as a founding member of I am a Voter, which was formed to encourage more participation among Latinos in the voting process. She also co-founded This is About Humanity, which raises funds for separated families at the U.S./ Mexico border.
Christen Nino De Guzman works with top content creators and influencers on Instagram, TikTok and Pinterest and provides career advice to those wanting to build their brands and create more engaging content. Dr. Jake Beniflah is the Executive Director of the Center for Multicultural Science, a leading U.S. non-profit think tank which studies multicultural marketing, and he has helped develop new economic indicators for more diverse research. And the fifth Council member, Sara Mora, is a storyteller, DACA recipient and migrant rights activist.
This isn’t the first time Chispa has created an advocacy initiative for its members. In the 2022 midterms, the dating app also partnered with Voto Latino to encourage people to vote.
"Chispa is committed to creating a safe and inclusive space for all Latine singles, and our new Advocacy Council is a significant step in that direction," said Julia Estacolchic, Chispa's Head of Brand and Marketing. "We believe that the Council's guidance and insight will help us better understand and address the issues affecting all US Latines, so that Chispa can make an impact on our community. We are excited to work with these accomplished leaders to make a difference."
Chispa is a Match Affinity dating app created in 2017 by Match Group. It is the largest dating app for Latines based in the U.S., and has over seven million downloads.
