Tinder announced the launch of its newest feature Relationship Goals, offering users more clarity and insight into what potential matches are looking for.

Relationship Goals will be part of the user’s profile, where they can display their dating goals. Some of the choices offered in the dropdown box include whether they’re looking for a “long-term partner,” “long-term, but open to short-term,” “short-term, but open to long,” “short-term fun,” “new friends” or “still figuring it out,” according to Tech Crunch.

Each description comes with an added emoji and is displayed as a highlighted banner at the top of the user’s profile, above the “About Me” section. According to Tech Crunch, Tinder will also offer weekly prompts to users asking if their relationship goals have changed and to make that change on their profiles for more clarity and transparency, an acknowledgement that attitudes and goals shift over time.

This latest addition is modeled after its sister app Hinge, also owned by Match Group. Hinge launched a similar feature called Dating Intentions earlier this year where users could add their goals to their profiles, although the choices are more focused on long-term relationships than Tinder’s offerings (instead of Hinge’s choice of “life partner” Tinder offers “new friends” and “short term fun,” though the rest of the choices are the same).

Tinder’s user base skews younger, with most of its members being between 18 and 25 years old and who want more casual relationships, as opposed to Hinge’s slightly older user base where daters are getting more serious and are more intentional about what they want when they are dating.

Tinder also noted in a press release announcing the new feature that when they were testing the Relationship Goals feature, more than 50 percent of users added it to their profile, showing their preference for more transparency in dating.

“This feature was developed in response to a shift we've seen among our members. Young singles, who make up a majority of Tinder, are increasingly becoming more intentional with who they spend their time with. In fact, 72% of Tinder members said they’re looking for someone who knows what they want,” Kyle Miller, vice president of Core Product at Tinder, said in a press release about the feature.

Starting December 14, Relationship Goals rolled out to users across many countries, including the U.S. The new feature will become available to everyone on January 5, 2023. For more information on this dating service, check out our Tinder review.
