Plenty of Fish is Down / Offline - July 6, 2012

It looks like the dating site Plenty of Fish is currently down. It appears to have gone offline sometime late July 6th PST. No official information is available at the moment for the dating site outage. When you try to access POF.com or Plentyoffish.com visitors will receive some sort of “Service is unavailable” message (depends on your browser).

A few people have also reported to us that they have received a database error message. These messages seem to indicate a server problem and not a DNS issue. These problems could range from a hardware or software failure to some sort of denial of service or hacker attack (seems unlikely at this point).

Update #1: We just wanted to add one more point. It has been reported that Plenty of fish may just be undergoing maintenance. This is highly doubtful since the site has been offline for about 10 hours now (from our estimate POF.com went down around 10pm EST). The weekends (and one close to a holiday) tend to be also very busy for a dating site which would not make it an ideal time to do maintenance. One final point on this outage not being maintenance is Plenty of Fish would have at least updated their homepage with a message about the maintenance and given an estimated time when the site would be fully operational again.

Update #2: July 7, 9:00am EST - At our last check (from multiple locations) Plenty of fish is now back online. There is no word at what caused the service failure.

Update #3: It is after 12pm and we are still getting a few reports from people having problems accessing POF.
