Continuous Problems with Match.com

Authored by: Anonymous (Anonymous User) on Wednesday, September 10 2008 @ 04:20 pm
Ok, i will try to make this brief, but will explain everything that has happened to me so far. This is over 2 weeks so far, but the problems began 3 days after joining.

I joined up (I didnt use the 3 free day trial period, I paid right off the bat for 1 month). After 3 days I had recieved a response email from 2 people. The first was a simple, not interested response, and the second wrote a semi-decent letter, though very vague. I responded to the second one with a long letter, but gave no actual personal information, other than my first name in closing the letter. The "lady" responded but as it turned out she was one of the Nigerian Scammers, so I ceased all communication. The same day, her profile disappears and all of a sudden I have no access to my account anymore (however the account exists still as it will email me my password, but the password doesnt work). I finally located the 1-800 number to call Match.com and I called them. I was told by the representative that someone had called in, pretending to be me, and requested that my profile be hidden and my account closed. I never did any such thing. After sereval minutes, the representative set me up with a new password and I supplied a new email address for security reasons. My account worked fine for the next few days.

Less than a week later, all of a sudden I am locked out of my account again. It still exists, but I cannot get into it, as before. I never gave out any information of a personal nature during this time that would allow anyone to identify themselves as me if they called in. So, I call the 1-800 number again and speak to a representative, who this time says they cannot do anything and that I have to email their executiveteam. A side note, I emailed the executive team and 2 other loctaions with Match.com during the first problem above, and now it has been about 2 weeks and never got any response from anyone even with the first emails, so I hardly expect to get any response from this latest email to them about my new problem.

So, I called back again and this time demanded to speak to one of the supervisors. A supervisor (David) came on the line and explained to me that he is even unable to access my account, athough he knows it does exist. He told me that the Executive Team had blocked my account, and as such not even the normal representatives you can talk to can do anything about it and that my only means of correcting it is to email the executiveteam, which I have done twice now with no response (not even an automated, "we got your email" response). They will not give any kind of phone number to allow you to talk to someone either. After reading many web posts about Match.com, I have come to find out that it seems to be a common thing for match.com to ignore emails sent to their executive team. So, now I am left with an active account that is blocked from me and match.com representatives, that will auto-renew I expect. A nice way to extort money out of people I would say.

So, out of about 2 weeks of a 1 month paid subscription (so far), I have only had access to my account their for less than half that.

As a side note, on all 3 occasions I called in (I spoke to a different person each time and a supervisor once), I told them that I had been contacted by a Nigerian Scammer. They showed no interest in this at all, only saying "that's too bad". They didnt even want to know who it was or what the profile name was of the person. They did not care at all about it, giving the scammers free run on their system. I have also read reports of people having their accounts closed on them for trying to report a scammer to match.com representatives. Their main interest is not too much in their honest subscribers apparently, but they show no interest to try to protect you from the scammers, and apparently even punish some honest subscribers if they try to report them.

As these kinds of things seems to be happening constantly for may years, and Match.com already having gone through one class action suit, it appears that the large number of people they still do this kind of stuff too, may get them into another one. If so, I will be happy to join in as well. If they try to bill me while blocking me from my account so I cannot cancel, then I may start contacting attornies myself.

My personal opinion, stay away from match.com. Do a simple google for "Match.com Scam", "match.com fraud", etc...very easy searches and they will turn up page after page after page of sites filled with similar stories of what match.com has done to people.

Continuous Problems with Match.com

Authored by: Anonymous (Anonymous User) on Sunday, April 05 2009 @ 06:56 pm
I have had the same problem with match.com auto-renewing my subscription after repeatedly calling to cancel my membership. I suggest calling your credit card company, and explain what happened- that you tried to cancel and DID NOT AUTHORIZE this purchase. Atleast they will argue on your behalf, and you will not have to deal with this terrible company just to get your money back!
