Shares for dating conglomerate Match Group soared in early September, following the company’s new listing to the S&P 500. As of September 20th, Match Group will replace Perrigo Company, according to an announcement by the Dow Jones Indices.

Stocks tend to rise after being added to the S&P 500, as they become a “must-buy” for index funds, which track stocks on the benchmark index. Shares of Match Group are up more than 50 percent since this time last year with after-hour gains according to CNBC. This is more than a year after the separation from its former parent company IAC in July of 2020.

News of the Match Group’s rising share price also follows Apple’s announcement that it will relax its app store rules, which Match Group, Spotify and a number of other companies have been fighting for over a year. Apple agreed that the companies can provide a link to their websites from the apps for users to sign up for subscriptions, allowing the developer to bypass Apple’s cut, which was anywhere from 15 to 30 percent of sales.

The CEOs of dating companies Match Group and Bumble have created relief funds for people in Texas affected by the new abortion ban.

The new law, also known as SB8, prevents women from having abortions after six weeks, long before most women know they are pregnant and effectively banning them altogether. In addition, citizens have been empowered and incentivized to bring civil lawsuits against anyone involved in assisting a woman getting an abortion, including doctors, family members, and even rideshare drivers. As a result, the female CEOs of two dating companies based in Texas – Match Group and Bumble – are fighting back on behalf of women by setting up funds to help people receive care out of state.

According to CNBC, Match Group’s CEO Shar Dubey announced that she will personally finance and help the company’s Texas-based employees receive out of state care if they need it. Bumble’s Whitney Wolfe Herd announced the company will create a fund for people in Texas who need access to care and send the money to organizations that support reproductive rights.

WooPlus Emoji Challenge

Dating app WooPlus, the dating app designed for curvy people, has announced the launch of a new video feature to help its users connect over the app, dubbed “emoji challenge.”

According to the company's press release, the feature allows users to film a short video for their profile, where they are challenged to imitate the emojis presented as they film. Once they have completed the challenge, the video is posted and they get a video verification badge, and as the company advertises, potentially more “likes.”

WooPlus wants to help users spice up their profiles and give their potential matches a taste of their personalities in a fun, new way. The point is not only for users to mimic emojis, but to embrace their individual creativity and be able to express it in an engaging way, rather than just posting static photos. Plus, it allows the user to verify their profile so they can stand out.

Dating app Bumble’s platform was found to have a security vulnerability capable of leaking the exact locations of its users, putting them at risk of potential attackers.

The researcher who discovered the security flaw created two fake profiles, one for the “attacker” and one for the “victim,” to check vulnerabilities in the app’s API. He was able to bypass signature checks for API requests, which meant he got around Bumble’s paywall to execute the attack.

His test revealed the exact location and the distance of the fake victim from the fake attacker through a process of trilateration, according to security trade magazine The Daily Swig. In other words, he figured out how the app calculated and matched approximate user locations by rounding down the exact distance they are from each other.

We first notice that we could not access the FirstMet website at the beginning of September (the last time we accessed FirstMet was on August 31, 2021). Figuring it was just under maintenance we didn't think to much of it. We then checked again a few days later and it was still down. A quick search online did not find any mention of the problem. The FirstMet dating apps where also still available on the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store to be downloaded and installed.

Fast forward 2 weeks and the website is still down and the apps are no where to be found on the phone app stores. Further searches online did not reveal any additional information. The company which currently owns FirstMet, "The Dating Company LLC", does not have a website so we have no way to reach out to someone to find out any more information.

Since it has been over 2 weeks and everything related to FirstMet is inaccessible the only thing we can deduce is that the service has gone out of business and closed for good. Therefore we will update our FirstMet review indicating its closed status.
