A press release yesterday from Chemistry.com informs us that Denver residents will be receiving a Free Communication Weekend, starting today (August 1st) to August 3rd. Full access will be available to Denver singles including the ability to communicate with other locals. Chemistry.com currently has over 5 million members.

With the success of eHarmony's free weekends I guess Chemistry decided to give it a try. Not sure why it is only for Denver though. Maybe in the next week or so they will have another free weekend for a different city. This way Chemistry may generate more press.

The last time Chemistry offered free memberships was mid June for the state of California (see Story).

Update - The rumor was only partly true. The free weekend is for Canadians only at eHarmony.ca.

I am not sure if it is true but I heard a rumor that eHarmony is having another Free Communication Weekend for the United States and Canada from Saturday June 28 to Tuesday, July 1. This weekend falls on Canada Day (July 1st) and is close to the US Independence Day holiday. The last free weekend at eHarmony was from May 23 to May 26 which was close to Canada's Victoria Day holiday (May 19) and also Memorial Day in the US. Maybe there is something to this rumor after all?

If you where thinking of trying out eHarmony for the first time I would wait to this Saturday so you can communicate with your matches for free. These promotions from eHarmony are usually only for new members who actually sign up on the specified weekend.

The Earth Times has a press release from Chemistry.com regarding a new promotion to celebrate California's ruling to overturn the state's ban on gay marriage. Chemistry will offer free 7 day memberships to anyone in the state of California who visits this promotional page on Monday, June 16. This is the same day San Francisco will begin issuing marriage licenses.

I'm glad Chemistry supports equal opportunity for all couples who want to declare their commitment, I just have to wonder what is so special about this particular promotion. We have been advertising a 7 day free trial Chemistry promotion for all U.S. and Canadian singles for a while now. This month, eHarmony announced their 50 top couple's success stories for the year 2007. Each couple represents one of the 50 states. For entry into this contest the couple had to submit their success story of how their experience was on eHarmony. For this contest there where more than 25,000 entries. The grand prize winner for 2007 is, John and Mindy Pease, of Kailua, Hawaii. They received "a travel package including flight and five nights stay at a luxury resort in Orlando, Florida courtesy of Southwest Airlines Vacations and the Orlando Visitors Bureau."

Oops, I missed this one, sorry UK Daters! According to Netimpreative, yesterday (Sept. 24) was National Dating Day. To celebrate this, DatingDirect.com setup a booth at Waterloo Station, under the clock. This location is apparently a famous place for daters to meet in the UK. This clear booth had Celebrities, single models and DatingDirect.com members inside. The idea is singles who saw the booth can then login to DatingDirect.com to enter in a competition to win a date with anyone in they saw in the booth.

The target audience for this publicity campaign was for male and female singles aged 25 to 35. Will it work? Who knows, I just feel sorry for the people in the booth!
