Selling Sunset’s Emma Hernan Causes Stir with Ben Affleck Rumor

Emma Hernan, one of the stars of reality show Selling Sunset, created an Internet frenzy when she revealed in a new episode that she and Ben Affleck matched on dating app Raya.

She told fellow reality star Chrishell Stause in the episode that the actor “may or may not have asked to grab coffee a few times” as they were messaging over the app. She also noted that he initiated conversation by bringing up their shared background of growing up in Boston. Stause replied that Hernan could have “foiled Bennifer,” and Hernan agreed that “maybe that wouldn’t have happened” if she had followed through and kept messaging him, according to E! News.

Affleck is now engaged to actress Jennifer Lopez, which caused fans to speculate on the timing and whether or not he cheated on Lopez if he was still texting with Hernan. The rumors grew when Lopez posted a photo on Instagram wearing a short red dress and boots stating that she was going out for a “girl’s night.”

Lopez and Affleck got together shortly after her split from Alex Rodriguez in 2021 and have been together since. They were engaged once before, almost 20 years ago, so fans were worried this might break up their relationship the second time around.

Affleck was quick to respond to the controversy, saying through his representatives that he hadn’t been on the dating app “for several years.” Raya also confirmed he had not been an “active member” for years. 

Hernan clarified what she meant a few days later, saying that the episode was shot long after they had messaged over Raya, and that they actually matched a few years before. "It was not recent. This was 2019," she told E! News in a recent interview. "Literally, the smallest, innocent little thing, and it was taken and blew up out of proportion."

She went on to say: "I think on the show, you didn't see the time frame and it just seemed worse, and it was literally the smallest thing," she said. "End of story. We're shutting that one down, now."

A source close to Lopez shared with US Weekly that the controversy “was blown out of proportion. Everyone is always out to make Ben look bad but he did nothing wrong. He was on a dating app when he was single.”

The source then disclosed that “J-Lo is very confident with what they have. She’s not going to let anyone bring down their relationship.” The source also confirmed that as far as their relationship goes, Affleck and Lopez “couldn’t be happier. This isn’t affecting their relationship one bit.”
