Have you ever wished dating apps felt less like swipe-and-scroll chores and more like real life? That’s exactly the idea behind Left Field, a new dating app that caught national attention when it appeared on *Shark Tank* earlier this year. Instead of endless swiping and shallow browsing, Left Field aims to help you connect in ways that feel more natural — based on shared communities, interests, and even real-world proximity.

In a world where many people feel “swipe fatigue,” Left Field’s founders wanted to design something that feels less like a game and more like the kind of introductions you might get from friends or happen upon in your everyday life.

Ever felt like your dating app experience could be more human and less repetitive? That’s exactly the challenge the online dating world is trying to solve. In a bold move toward a more intentional future for digital romance, Justin McLeod — the founder and former CEO of Hinge — is stepping down to launch a new AI-driven dating service called Overtone, backed by Match Group according to the Match Group press release.

If you’ve ever swiped endlessly without meaningful results, you’re not alone. Many users find traditional swiping mechanics exhausting and impersonal. Overtone aims to explore a different path by using AI and voice-centered tools to spark thoughtful, natural interactions that feel more like real conversation than algorithmic matches.

The League Community has IRL Events

Dating app companies like Tinder and The League are betting on in-person events to drive engagement on their online platforms and help attract new users.

According to The New York Post, dating app The League organized high-end events in New York, the Hamptons and even at the U.S. Open to drive engagement on its platform as well as to generate revenue. In fact, senior VP and head of marketing Lisa Kraynak told the Post: “It’s the beginning of a hybrid model in our largest market. The future is some combination of in-person, online and artificial intelligence.”

Dating apps have seen a decline in paying users in recent quarters, leading companies to try new features and even branch out into event organizing to appeal to daters who have become burned out from swiping. This hybrid model could prove effective, since dating apps are still the most popular way to meet people, according to recent studies, but coupling that with in-person events give people a better chance at connecting.

Metaverse

China-based dating app Yumi has started beta testing experiences in its new metaverse, called Meta Town, hoping to attract young Gen Z daters who are interested in immersive experiences.

Users can create avatars based on their photos, explore the metaverse to find other virtual daters, and have real-time audio conversations with “artificial intelligence-powered translation,” according to the South China Morning Post, making it easier for daters who don’t speak the same language to connect.

The metaverse is a platform where people can interact via avatars in real time and in different virtual spaces, often with the ability to exchange virtual goods and services.
