eHarmony is offering 6 months for free when members in the United States purchase a eHarmony subscription for 6 months. In Canada, eHarmony.ca is offering 3 months for free on the purchase of a 3 month membership. No coupon code is required but these 2 deals are only available from April 28th to May 2nd, 2016.

eHarmony is a popular service for those looking to find a long-term relationship. In fact a recent study found that 57% of eHarmony members end up finding a relationship on the service. To get started on eHarmony you first need to create a free membership. Once you have entered information like your username, age and gender you will then be asked to take the personality questionnaire. This step is important and is used by the eHarmony matchmaking algorithm to find matches for you. Taking the questionnaire will require about 30 minutes of your time. Once complete you will then receive your first batch of matches (around 5). From here you can then review the matches and communicate with the ones you wish starting first with the Guided Communication Process. Every day or so afterwards you will then receive a new batch of eHarmony matches.

New Study Reveals Who is More Likely to Pay for a Dating App

Paying for Dating Apps

Dating apps are popular in part due to the low commitment factor. Most apps are free to download and begin using, so there isn’t much incentive for people to pay for enhanced services, or pay to use an app at all. You can swipe left and right, checking back for new matches at any time.

Because many dating apps have also modeled themselves after the swiping aspect of Tinder, where potential dates are judged instantly, and some argue, superficially, there is not much incentive for singles to get serious in their searches, and especially to pay for an online dating service. This has contributed to a dating app culture where daters aren’t necessarily invested or interested in serious dating.

However, a new study from Earnest, an alternative lending firm based in San Francisco, California, has revealed that people are willing to pay for a dating app, if it means they get more quality matches and have a better chance of connecting with someone and starting a relationship.

As we saw with online dating sites like Plenty of Fish, free doesn’t necessarily mean that daters are getting their needs met. In fact, many daters tried these free services only to return to the paid services later on, assuming that people using them were more serious.

Online dating services and apps vary in cost, with some starting as low as $10 per month while some can cost as much as $65 per month.

One surprising find from the study is that men seem to be more serious in their search, outnumbering women in terms of who will pay for dating services by sixteen percent.

Another interesting find: those living on the West Coast are 55 percent more likely to pay for a dating service than in other parts of the US. (So no, California residents aren’t so flaky after all!)

Overall, nearly 10 percent of those surveyed said they paid for a dating app, with Match, OkCupid and E-Harmony edging out Tinder as go-to romance resources. Forty-four percent of participants were willing to pay for Match, while 32% were willing to pay for OkCupid’s services and 22% will pay for eHarmony. (Tinder came in fourth at 9%.)

And no surprise, older singles ages 36-50 are 50% more likely to pay for a dating app than their younger counterparts, aged 18-26.

eHarmony announced free communication from Thursday March 17th to Wednesday March 23rd, 2016. This week long event is available in the United States and Canada.

eHarmony rarely has a 7 day event where you can message all of your matches for free. If you are interested in trying out online dating and the eHarmony service in particular, I would suggest signing up for a free membership today. This way you will have a full week to try out the service at no cost to you and with no credit card required. When you do decide to join make sure to give yourself at least a half hour for the process as it takes that long to fill out your dating profile and answer the questionnaire. Most questions are multiple-choice but some do require a bit of reflecting about yourself. There are no right or wrong answers, you just want to make sure you answer the questions truthfully in terms of your point of view. After all your answers are what is used by the eHarmony matchmaking algorithm to match you with other members who are looking for a long-term relationship.

The free trial is available both on the eHarmony websites and through their dating apps which can be found on Google Play and iTunes. Features not included during this event are skipping the guided communication process and going straight to email. The guided communication component is a key part of eHarmony's process which allows member's to ask and answer questions about each other. These couple of questions allows you to break the ice with your matches and gives you something to talk about when you start to send actual messages to each other. Viewing of profile photo's and the secure phone call service, which allows you to communicate with your matches over the phone but still keep your phone number private, are also not included in this event and are for paid members only.

The eHarmony free trial starts Thursday February 25th and continues to Monday February 29th, 2016. This 4 day event is available in both the United States and Canada, on the website and dating apps. This is the second free trial eHarmony has run this month.

Existing eHarmony members get access to the free trial automatically. If you don't have a membership all you need to do create one. No credit card is required for this, just the completion of the eHarmony profile questionnaire. The whole process takes about 30 minutes to complete depending on how long you spend answering each question. Most questions are multiple choice and it is important you answer them as truthfully as possible since each one affects the outcome of who the eHarmony matchmaking algorithm chooses to match with you.

Once you have completed the profile your will receive your first set of matches. You can now review those matches and start communicating with the ones you wish, starting with the guided communication process and then continuing on with email. You will continue to have new matches sent to you every day or so. One thing to note about the free trial is that it does not include photos, secure call, or the skip straight to email feature for the guided communication process.

For the first question of the poll, it asked our visitors what paid dating site or app would you recommend for the Single's Choice Award. This question had 8 possible answers and included the top dating services of 2015. For this award the top voted service receives Gold, followed by Silver, and for third most voted site, Bronze.

The recipient of the Gold 2015 Single's Choice Award is Match.com. Match.com grew in popularity again this year and received 8% more votes than last year. For 2015 Match received 148 votes which is 32.24% of all votes cast.
