Dating app Bumble hopes to share more positivity over its app with the launch of its new feature Compliments.
According to Tech Crunch, Compliments lets a user write a compliment to another user, even before they match. The recipient will be notified of an unread compliment when they log in to the app, putting it front and center. Each user is allowed one message per day to send in the Compliments feature.
To send someone a Compliment, users can look through a person’s profile and see what they would like to message about. The Compliment can be sent on whatever strikes a chord – something they wrote in their bio, a profile prompt response, or anything else. When the user has a Compliment in mind, they can click on the yellow icon at the bottom left corner of a profile (with a heart inside of a speech bubble), and a text box will open where the Compliment can be written. There is a limit of 150 characters per Compliment.
Compliments can be seen on the user’s main Encounters page as well as their Beeline, which is for premium users, according to Tech Crunch.
In addition to getting to message a user before having to match, highlighting their interest in a particular profile, Compliments also lets you start a conversation on a positive note. The goal according to Bumble’s press release about the new feature is to: “be even more intentional about starting the conversation in a positive way.”
“Compliments answer the what and why of dating. What is it about a person that you find fascinating? Why do you want to get to know someone better? With that in mind, there truly is no better way to start a connection,” Bumble’s Sex & Relationships Expert Shan Boodram said in the statement. “Giving a compliment can be as easy as sending a kind message on a shared interest or hobby that you see on someone’s profile.”
Bumble is rolling out new features to help its users connect more quickly, including Bantr Live which allows them to join once a week to chat with other users without seeing what they look like or matching with them first. The dating app was inspired by the fictional dating app in Ted Lasso, where two of its main characters found romance with each other before realizing who they were flirting with.
Bumble founder and CEO Whitney Wolfe Herd also recently announced she will be hiring someone to head her signature dating app for the first time. She remains CEO of Bumble Inc., which in addition to the Bumble dating app, is the parent company for other dating apps like Badoo and Fruitz.
