Single men are increasingly turning to Open AI’s ChatGPT and other AI chat bots to write their dating profiles and send messages to matches on dating app Tinder.

According to Vice, Facebook’s leaked AI tool LLaMA was being tested by dating app users against the popular ChatGPT, both of which can be used to help craft profiles and message matches. And recently, Open AI released ChatGPT4, the newer and more comprehensive version of ChatGPT which took the world by storm.

So far, LLaMA has no guardrails in place so users can experiment as they see fit. ChatGPT 4 is already being used to create text for Tinder profiles and give tips to users for gaining more matches.

Facebook originally made the AI available to researchers and approved other parties, but the tool appeared in 4Chan after a user leaked it on the forum, according to Vice.

According to The Daily Mail, men in the U.K. are getting more dates than ever with the help of ChatGPT, and as one man told the news site it’s helping “tip the scales,” since traditionally women get more matches than men on dating apps.

The Daily Mail used ChatGPT in research for the story, asking questions like: “can you help me get Tinder dates,” and found that it generated tips to improve one’s chances, including profile details to attract more swipers, and advising the user to be “persistent” and “respectful” in interactions with matches.

While this might seem standard to many dating app users, it’s all about details – what might seem like a normal “preference” for one user could offend another, for example. ChatGPT can correct language to help give a user insight into what works, and to appear more appealing.

There has been a lot of debate surrounding the use of ChatGPT on dating apps. Many singles feel it’s disingenuous if you don’t tell your matches that you used AI to create a profile or to strike up a conversation. Some feel duped at unknowingly having a conversation with an AI chat bot, but others contend that using it helps finesse what they are writing and how they portray themselves.

The Facebook leak adds more complication to the problem, since there are no safety protocols in the tool yet, and Tinder hasn’t specified any rules regarding AI chat bots for its users.

Facebook told Vice in a statement: “We have made clear that the LLaMA foundational models were released by Meta for the purposes of research only. In line with industry practices, if we find a suspected violation of the LLaMA research license we investigate.”

Tinder has not responded to questions regarding its policies relating to the use of ChatGPT on its platform.
