Grindr Unlimited Description

Grindr is turning up the heat for summer with new features and an upgraded premium membership. The new subscription tier, dubbed Grindr Unlimited, will cost users $49.99 per month or $300 up front for a full-year membership.

Grindr Unlimited is being billed as “the most convenient and discreet Grindr experience ever.” In a statement, a spokesperson for Grindr said: “When it comes to your Grinding, every minute counts, and you can’t afford to waste time – or have your clients see you in the grid during dessert.”

Grindr Unlimited comes with all the benefits of Grindr Xtra, the platform’s original premium membership, plus five exclusive perks:

  • Viewed Me: see who has viewed your profile in the last 24 hrs
  • Unsend: undo sent messages and photos by tapping a message and selecting “Unsend Message”
  • Incognito: browse and chat without appearing in the grid or showing up in other people’s “Viewed Me” list
  • Typing Status: typing status dots appear to let you know when someone is actively writing you a message
  • Unlimited Profiles: scroll forever without running out of people to browse and chat with

Features shared by Grindr Xtra and Grindr Unlimited include personalized push notifications, unlimited Blocks and Favorites, no ads, additional filtering options, more Grindr Tribes, read receipts, online-only view, and the ability to save and send chat phrases. Unlimited and Xtra subscribers can also access advanced privacy settings that allow them to add a PIN and change how the Grindr icon is displayed on their phone to make their online dating more discreet. The monthly fee for Grindr Xtra rose from $11.99 per month to $24.99 this June.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, reactions on social media to the new subscription tier and updated pricing have not been positive. Users have criticized Grindr for choosing to raises prices during Pride and failing to provide enough features to justify the higher costs.

“$50 a month is wayyyy too much,” commented Reddit user Snakesounds. “I wonder how out of touch with reality the developers of this app must be to think the average person would pay that. The free version of the app is basically a buggy, useless mess that crashes every time you open it. Honestly I feel like they want to lose users based on these things.”

Another Reddit user, Canem-nigrum, took a thoughtful approach: “I would think twice going out with someone who sees it as necessary to pay so much money for so little. Especially because they are functions that have a very stalkerish aspect to them. It sends a bad message about what their priorities are in life, and that’s unattractive to me.”

Other users pointed out that some of Grindr’s competitors offer similar features for a lower fee or free. Love it or loathe it, Grindr Unlimited is now available on iOS and Android.
