Can You Flip (instead of fall) in Love?

Remember the last time you spied someone across a crowded room or bar and wanted to give them your number? Out of business cards and determined to not write in on a napkin (or worse, their hand), maybe you skipped the opportunity all together in favor of "maybe I'll see them again." Well, instead of falling in love, there's a new company that lets you flip first!

A new company called FlipMe gives singles a way to share their number without sharing all of the information they'd share on a business card. When you see someone you like, you simply flip them - that is, you give them a card with your unique FlipperID. If the receiving party is interested, they'll log in, enter your ID and receive more information about you.

How is this different from a business card? Well, it puts YOU in control of the information you share. It also doesn't leave your contact information lying around on a bar on the floor somewhere or leave you subject to creepy emails from someone who (literally) found your information. While the concept is still very new, founder hope it will take off and offer folks looking to connect yet another tool in their dating toolbox to build successful introductions.

Interestingly enough, the concept stems from how the founder met her husband. They kept making eye contact across a bar and he gave the waitress a note to hand to her. They've been married now for five years and have started a family. Founder Rachel DeAlto and her husband hope the concept will take off and tap into the online component presently reserved for online dating.

Will NBC’s “Match Off” Prove a Quick Fix for Desperate Singles?

After getting your dose of Saturday Night Live, you can turn in for a new twist on the matchmaking game. The show “Match Off” pits two matchmaking experts against one another, with each episode featuring one dating contestant. The experts will offer advice to fix a love life that has yet to result in a perfect match. The catch? If they’re successful (or if ONE of them is successful), the week’s dating contestant will be poised to find love.

You see, only ONE of the two dating/matchmaking experts will be awarded the Scepter of Love at the end of each week’s show.

Here’s the jist: each week, a lovelorn contestant (they’ll be both male and female) will be paired-up with two matchmaking experts. Some featured experts for upcoming shows are folks like Emily Fry of In Good Company, Jen Moeller of Eight at Eight, Rachel Canis and Adam Fendelman (both of Best Foot Forward) and PJ Osgood of It’s Just Lunch. The race is then on for the two competing matchmakers to find the contestant Mr. or Mrs. Right! The matchmaker deemed to have given the best advice by the contestant wins the Scepter of Love.

Note: Unfortunately the source to the video and/or image which once was displayed here has since been removed by the authors for an unknown reason.

Find someone love, win a stick. That, and get your matchmaking service pimped on network television, I guess. I’m interested to see how the series pans-out. While I don’t think true love can be found in a half hour reality show, it will definitely have its train wrecks and shocker moments. For the love-seeking’s sake, I hope these matchmakers are more spot-on than off and actually help them make adjustments that will compliment their dating lives for the long-term and not just for the sake of ratings.

Match.com was featured on The Early Show recently along with 25 couples who met on Match.com. The video contains some footage of behind the scenes from the show along with the actual segment that aired.

The host Dave Price (The Early Show weatherman) mentioned 2 interesting online dating statistics. The first one was that 1 in 6 marriages (I am assuming in the United States) are the result of the couples meeting through online dating. The second stat Dave told us was that 25 percent of people currently in a relationship, met online through a dating site.

CatholicMatch.com has acquired the 4 year old dating site TraditionalSingleCatholics.com. This is Catholic Matches third acquisition since 2007 when they acquired CatholicDaters.com and SingleCatholics.com (in 2008). Members of TraditionalSingleCatholics.com now get to experience a much larger, more active, and sophisticated dating site. CatholicMatch.com by our estimates is the largest dating site designed strictly for Catholic singles.
