The pressure to write the perfect dating profile is enormous. It needs to be confident but not arrogant, intriguing but not cryptic, unique but not outlandish, alluring but not unapproachable. There’s nothing easy about condensing your personality into a few carefully curated sentences and photographs. Inevitably, things must be left out. But which things?

For many users, the answer is sexual preferences. It’s an easy detail to omit - and some would say the rules of decency require such details to be omitted - but brothers Emerson and Morris Hsieh see things differently. The young co-founders launched Waves, a dating app that allows users to match based on sexual interests, and are currently part of famed incubator Y Combinator’s Summer 2019 batch.

Hily Dating App

Hily is a relatively new dating app that is just 2 years old. Hily stands for "Hey, I Like You" and has gathered over 5 million members since launch and is now a top 10 revenue generating dating app in the app stores (iOS and Android). When Hily launched they touted their artificial intelligence (AI) which is designed to help stop scammers and fake profiles being created. Hily also has AI which is used for matching members together. The more you use their app the better the matching will be as Hily will learn what type of profiles you like based on who you view and like. Working on our review we found Hily is geared more to younger adults and has a similar swipe mechanics of liking or passing on matches as other competing dating apps.

Hily is one of the few dating apps doing well that is not owned by a larger online dating company that has multiple brands. Alex Pasykov, and Yan Pronin are the founders and Hily's headquarters is in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Tagged Dating App

Tagged is our latest dating service review. The service is available from their website at Tagged.com or as an app on iOS and Android (the app is the preferred method of access since it has been updated with the latest features).

Tagged is another service that has been around a long time that we had never reviewed. The main reason is, it was launched in 2004 as a social discovery website and wasn't really used as a dating platform. After 2011 and when Tagged launched their apps is when the service become more about meeting people online for dating.

The Meet Group which owns Tagged (along with MeetMe, Hi5, Skout, Lovoo, and Growlr) has marketed the Tagged dating service for adults in their 20's and 30's. All of The Meet Group of dating apps share similar features including one of their most popular feature live video streaming of members. Streaming also allows members who are popular enough to make money with Tagged.

FarmersOnly Dating Site

Well it has been a long time coming at Dating Sites Reviews (which launched in 2003) but our FarmersOnly review is now online and available for viewing. Farmers Only launched in 2005 and when we first looked at it for doing a possible review in 2006, they still had a low number of members, and we had many other dating sites we were looking at for doing reviews as well. Creating a review takes a lot of time and effort since there is a fair bit of research and testing. In 2007 Farmers Only funny YouTube commercials went viral and with that came a lot of media attention and new members. I am not sure why we didn't do a review since then, but we have corrected that mistake and have one now: Farmers Only review.

Dating apps have long used hidden scoring systems to rank users’ desirability. Tinder made headlines in 2016 when then-CEO Sean Rad revealed to Fast Company that Tinder users were assigned and matched according to an internal “Elo score.” Tinder has since retired the Elo score in favor of an updated algorithm, but it is not the only dating service that issues users an attractiveness rating.

UK-based app Once is one such service. Not only does Once use an attractiveness scale of one to five to guide its matching system, the company recently emailed its users to tell them their scores.

Toffee, the UK-based dating app aimed exclusively at privately-educated singles, is beginning its international expansion with Australia. The app was widely criticized as elitist when it launched in the UK last April, but shows no sign of slowing down in the face of controversy. Toffee will become available for Android users in September, followed by the Australia launch in November. Additional international rollouts are planned over the next 12 months.

Founder Lydia Davis insists Toffee was not born out of snobbery. “I’ve found that people from similar backgrounds tend to stick together,” she told Vogue earlier this year. “It was never our intention to be elitist. Schooling is a big part of people’s lives – 10 years of their childhood. It doesn’t define them, but it is part of their identity. It’s just one of many things people might have in common.”
