Hi, my name is Holly and I am new to online dating. I have been in a long relationship that just went south and need some advice the best way to start online dating. What sites should I try? What should I post? Any tips from you guys would be awesome!

Hi Holly,

Welcome to online dating!

I would recommend the 3 most popular sites here in the United States:

Plenty of Fish

eHarmony

Match.com

Depending on what features you are looking for in a service (ie eHarmony does the matching for you) I would start with one of these 3. Take a look at our reviews on the left hand side for more information on these dating sites.

I think it depends upon what the person has in mind and what he wants to do. Do they want to find a friend or find a date? There are lots of dating websites and apps that provide us online dating but it comes down to us and what we want.

Personally I think Tinder is the best dating service for hookups and casual dating.

Honestly I’d suggest reading some posts in this section of the forum. You’ll quickly see names of dating sites where people have had problems. You’ll also see a few wheee people had a more positive experience. Go with trying the positive ones first. Create a user name which is unique— not just your email address or something everyone knows you by. It’s better to remain slightly anonymous so that you can protect yourself online. Sal White isn’t my real name. Just a name I use here and there. Wink

The advice I heard is to just start slow. Pick a single site and don’t do more than one because it can be overwhelming and crazy.
