I've already attended 2 singles parties hosted by a group I found on Meetup, and I guess they're OK if you live in that part of town and you like alcohol. But I didn't really fit in there, so I'm not going to any more of their meetings.

2 other people (one man and one woman) think I should start my own Meetup group and host it. I asked them, "what would you think if I started a Meetup group for artistic, commitment-minded singles in the area where I live?" They said it's a good idea, because 1. the only singles events in this part of town are speed dating parties hosted by Pre-Dating and Hurrydate (#3, 8 Minute Dating, packed up and left town due to lack of business), and 2. the only other group catering to artistic/creative singles is in NYC. Attendees could bring samples or photos of their work, and maybe we could have a little open mike night deal for the poets in the group. Everyone would have great fun, and it wouldn't have to be at an establishment that serves alcohol.

I anticipate I'd have to deal with L.A.'s big-bucks matchmaking services, because they'd think (rightly) that I'd be filching their clients and profits, but other than that, it would cost me only $144 a year to run the group. I'd kick out men who are only looking for quickie sex, the group would only be for artistic singles who want to be friends first.

As soon as I fix a software issue I have, I'm starting that new Meetup group. Let's see how many dating services try and stop me.

I thought about another type of meet up group and looked a bit into it.

They are not all $144.00. They seel blocks of time like 3 months where you can run your own group and it was much cheaper.

I think it s GREAT theory but it like everything else -people say they will attend and you do the work and pay the money and they never show.

You might correspond with the person in charge with the NYC meetup group and see how many attend.
