DateHookup Scammer Caution

I have been using DateHookup for almost three years and have met several really nice guys, very sincere and honest. However, last week I ALMOST got scammed out of $300. This guy was very sweet, seemed sincere, wove a great thread of lies that were very believable, including how he travels (with his 14-year-old son) for his business, lost his wife and older son several years ago in a terrible car accident (wanting sympathy). We were exchanging emails via personal email, texting, and talking on the phone -- he never seemed to be able to make time to meet in person (big red flag). His profile had said he lived only one mile from me; I googled his name and discovered he (or someone by that name) really did live a mile from me. Then he said he was traveling out of the country on business. He called me as soon as he arrived, and everything was fine.

THEN ... he called me a few hours later saying he needed $300 because the hotel (in Ghana) doesn't accept credit cards (yeah, right!). He wanted me to go to Wal-Mart and wire the money via Western Union. When I refused, he got mad. He had taken his profile off DateHookup a week earlier, so I couldn't note it as a scammer.

In the 3 years I've been on DateHookup, this is the first time I encountered a scammer. BE CAREFUL!!
