Spritzr

We all have that friend: the one who dates jerk after jerk, ending up in a string of relationships so bad they make you question why anyone bothers dating at all.

A new app helps you give that friend's hopeless love life a lift. Spritzr allows you to refer potential love interests to single friends using Facebook. With you as matchmaker, you no longer have to put up with your friend's endless parade of unsuitable suitors.

To sign up for Spritzr, you must first indicate if you're a Dater or a Matchmaker. If you choose the latter, start suggesting friends to each other. Friends who indicate mutual interest will be sent notifications and can connect. If mutual interest isn't established, no notifications are sent and no one is the wiser.

Exceptional Matchmakers are rewarded with Karma Points. A leader board shows which Matchmakers are especially successful at setting up their friends. Bronze, silver, or gold status can be earned. Gold level Matchmakers get VIP treatment, including access to exclusive Spritzr events and rewards (both real and virtual).

If you're single and looking for love, you don't have to rely on your friends. You can get help from other seasoned Matchmakers if you're brave enough to put your dating life in the hands of total strangers. Three or more Matchmakers must make the same suggestion before you see it, increasing the chance that it's a highly compatible match.

Not looking for love at all? You still could get set up by a matchmaking friend. Even users who aren't on the app can receive Facebook notifications indicating that they have been 'Matchmade' by a friend with the app. Some might find the feature intrusive or annoying, but at least it will make a refreshing change from the Candy Crush invites.

An in-the-works feature will allow Daters to give feedback to Matchmakers. With Daters letting Matchmakers know how they're doing, Matchmakers have motivation to keep the quality of their work high.

Spritzr is trying to solve a real problem. "Online dating has always been like going to a random bar where you have no social connections," said Manshu Agarwal, Spritzr's founder and CEO. "You might meet someone great, but the chances are small."

Spritzr, however, was designed to be the digital equivalent of going to a friend's party, where the atmosphere is more conducive to making romantic connections with friends of friends. The app emulates the offline process of dating within your social circle.

So far Spritzr is available for iPhone only. It will be launching on Android soon.
