Listen up, guys. Even though you’re going to be doing most of the legwork when it comes to online dating, you still need to have an awesome dating profile to convince those ladies to write you a return email!

Here are the biggest mistakes men make and how to avoid them:

1) Horrible pictures.

I’ll go into this in depth in another article. The short version? Smile. Keep your shirt on. Don’t post pictures of yourself drinking or in the middle of a gaggle of women (or worse, strippers). Post the types of pictures you wouldn’t mind your grandmother seeing. Nice, clean, respectable, a little fun, but nothing crazy.

2) Not long enough.

Size matters, guys. If your dating profile just makes the minimum character length to be accepted into the system, it doesn’t say enough about you to make a woman interested in getting to know you better.

3) Mentioning exes.

Just like for the ladies, keep your ex out of your dating profile. We know you’re single, so your ex obviously wasn’t The One. Focus on the future and what you’d like to have in your new girlfriend!

4) Being too specific.

On the flip side of the guy who doesn’t write enough is the guy who is way too specific. Yes, your fantasy girl is a petite redhead with green eyes who loves motorcycles, but what if.... what if the woman of your dreams is a shade taller? Or a brunette? Focus on the type of personality you’d like to attract and ditch the specific physical details.

5) Not being confident.

Your dating profile should be like the back cover of a book – it should convince people to pick you up and try you out. If it’s boring, negative, or wimpy, it’s not going to get sold! Toot your horn, be confident, and end your profile with an invitation to connect with you.
