Spark Networks Jewish dating site called JDate got a nice bit of publicity in The New York Times last week. The paper publish an article about a JDater's success story in their Fashion & Style section.

After a 13 year marriage, a 48 year old man named Ron James decided to get right back into dating. In the same month as his divorce he joined JDate.com. In the beginning months, every night for 2 or 3 hours he searched for woman between the ages of 30 and 50, and who lived within 50 miles of his apartment. He kept his profile full of energy but not head strong. In 18 months Ron emailed between 500 and 600 women, in which he dated almost 50 of them. This many dates was expense since, he had to pay for the date and usually commute an hour into New York City. This was all done on a modest salary. What Ron ended up doing to save money was stacking first meet dates. Every other Sunday he would have dates with as many as 3 women. He kept the date times spread apart and at different locations so he could "retain some sense of integrity".

I had a hint of what was coming from People Media a few days ago since I had been in contact with them while I have been working on a BlackPeopleMeet.com review (which will be out soon).

InterActiveCorp (IAC) announced that it has agreed to purchase People Media for $80 million USD from American Capital Ltd. This will add an additional 27 dating sites to their inventory and over 255 thousand paying subscribers. After the sale of Match.com's European operations (see Story), IAC has 24 dating sites (including existing partnerships). Once this acquisition is complete the total will be 51 different dating sites. People Media's dating sites for the most part are all in niche markets. A few of the more popular sites include the afore mentioned BlackPeopleMeet.com, LoveandSeek.com, SingleParentMeet.com, and SeniorPeopleMeet.com. In 2008, People Media's dating sites generated $11.6 million in earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA).

In March of this year People Media also announced a partnership with AOL Personals to bring niche online dating to their visitors (see Story). Match.com and eHarmony have partnerships with AOL as well. IAC also has expressed interest in possibly purchasing Yahoo! Personals if it becomes available (see [story: Match-com-in-Talks-Buy-Yahoo-Personals Story]). Spark Networks has been looking for a buyer for over a year now (see Story) but, we haven't heard of any interest by IAC to make an offer.

GetItOn has Advanced Sexual Compatibility Matching

I usually don't write to much about "Adult" dating sites, I leave them to other dating review sites to handle. After seeing FriendFinder's new adult dating site called Get It On (or GetItOn), I wanted to write a bit about it because it advertises a matchmaking system. According to the GetItOn website, they offer "Advanced sexual compatibility matching" and Powerful and easy-to-use search tools". It seems like FriendFinder, who runs the largest adult dating site called Adult FriendFinder, is trying to cash in on compatibility matching systems that have been made popular by dating sites like eHarmony and Chemistry.

How is the compatibility matching done on GetItOn? By filling out the Sexual Compatibility Survey when you sign up. The survey contains 15 fields that ask about different types of sexual experiences. Some of the experiences include Cybersex, Threesomes, Role-Playing and Dominance. Within each experience field you select from 6 options that range from "Gotta have it" to "Never gonna happen". Question 16 on the survey asks if you are willing to try a sexual practice outside of your comfort zone. This selection obviously effects the answers from the previous 15 questions. Your Sexual Preferences along with your Cupid Preferences will then be used to determine your compatibility with other GetItOn members.

For the most part, GetItOn offers the same features as Adult FriendFinder. The only real difference is the survey and having it applied to your Cupid Preferences (another 18 questions) for matching purposes. This is not a huge change and is a far cry from eHarmony's 258 in-depth profile questions that help determine compatibility.

Will compatibility matching make a difference on adult dating sites? I doubt it, since most guys on these type of sites will probably take almost anything they can get (in terms of sex). Obviously FriendFinder is confident that enough singles are looking for this type of service, but only time will tell.

For more about this adult dating site, visit Get It On.
