Does SpeedDate Work?

I probably should of asked this question before I signed up for the subscription but does speed dating work online? I like the idea behind what they do but I find I am a little overwhelmed with everything. I haven't had time to speed date the traditional way for the last few months by going out to an event, which I like by the way, so I was hoping going online would work as well.

What is the best way to succeed on this site?

Does any dating site work? For the most part yes but to varying degrees of success.

I tried speeddate.com about a year ago and found it average. The site works a bit differently than most since it is online speed dating so I would suggest you do their virtual tour. This allows you to see how to setup your 5 minute speed dates with other members.

Once you start speed dating online it is better than sending emails to other members since this way you know the member is real. Especially if you use video chat.

I do think speed dating the traditional way where you meet other singles at a physical address and is run by a host does work better though. People who go to these events are much more invested in finding someone than a person you meet online.

I spent a lot of money on speeddate and I have very little to show for it. I used a prepaid credit card so I wasn’t worried about recurring charges. They have a no refund policy so before you join make sure it is something you want to do.

After a couple of months using speeddate I received probably over 300 messages. Some were vulgar but you expect that with dating sites. Plenty of fish was much worse IMO. About a quarter of these messages seemed to be from quality members. Of those I went on about 20 speed dates. I was a little nervous at first but you just have to take it for what they are. I did end up dating a guy for a while from speeddate but we never did really click.

I like the idea of speeddate. I just wished it worked better.

Same here. I have been to a few speed dating events run at a nearby restaurant. They were setup on meetup.com - a good site by the way for singles to find each other - the problem is that these real life meetups are only successful maybe 10% of the time for me. I just never seem to really connect with someone at these events. Maybe it is me and how I present myself but I don't think so. Almost all of the women after these events seem to find someone but then again the events usually have about 50% more guys than gals.

I like speed dating from home on SpeedDate. There are usually a couple of new women online every couple of nights when I am online that I haven't seen before that I speed date with. Some I think I have a connection with but nothing ever materializes Cry Cry Cry

How does speeddate.com work? Do you just login and then find someone to chat with that is online at the same time as you? I can’t see a web camera as a replacement for meeting someone in real life at a bar or an actual speed dating event hosted by someone. Cameras are not very flattering for most people which I include myself in this group. I also like the fact that you can go with a group of guys to the event, it keeps your courage up.

With online dating I think I much rather just have my profile up with a few choice pictures than include any video of myself trying to act natural.

I paid over 50 bucks for 6 months and haven’t had much luck. I have been on maybe 10 speed dates with most people nowhere near my neighborhood. The system works okay but they need to have more people join. I feel like I have been suckered out of my money. Angry Angry Angry Angry

Why is a speed date only 3 minutes? I wish you could make it at least 5 minutes long. When you start a speed date you know pretty quickly if it is going to be a dud or if you have some chemistry and could continue to talk for a while. Most of mine have been good so far because I take the time to do a little research. If somebody sends me a speed date request (it has happened a few times) I don’t instantly take it. I look at the persons profile and make an educated decision. I have turned down a speed date this way. I don’t want to give false hopes and try to figure out what to talk about when I see we have nothing in common.

I wish other dating sites used video more but they don’t so I am going to stick with Speeddate.com for a little longer to see how things turn out.

My quick answer is "NO"!!!

I had no luck on speeddate.com and I would not recommend it. I stopped using the site after a few days when I could not find anyone to speed date with. I should have asked for a refund but I never did. I just let me membership expire.

Speeddate wasn't bad a few years ago but I just reactivated my account that I hadn't used in 2 years and what I found was a ghost town. In 2011 Speeddate had 100's of members in my city that were close enough for me to contact and try to setup a date. Now I can find 8. That is a huge difference. I am going to look elsewhere.
