Dating Sites Reviews Forums

I need to get some some input here from woman - I have put ads on a lot of personals sites on the net and have had very few responses. Most responses are either from out of town or even out of the country.

I don't pretend to like things I don't like just to get responses and I am honest about what I want in a relationship. I am the kind of person who will answer an e-mail sent to me on a site by someone I am not interested in telling them I am not so I don't waste that persons time. Yet I have responded to a lot of profiles without ever getting a response in return. I realize I am not the best looking guy in the world but there has to be more to it than that. What do you ladies look for in a profile in order for you to answer it? I even got my ex-wife to help me write an ad one time and only got one response from that. I would not describe myself as desperate because I have been separated for almost a year now and just started looking into the dating scene on-line about a month ago.

Any ideas or advice?
