That was the Personals section of the Dallas Observer when they ran dating ads where the advertiser had to pay $15.00 a week and the women resonding could reply for free only through a written response like a letter. Some were perfumed. Some included a REAL photo.. This REALLY worked. I swear I had more dates from 1982 to the paper stooping the letters around 1997 than I can remember. Not all were good but I did meet some women and I had relationships that lasted for years and even got married through this paper (unfortunately to a con artist-never said it was perfect).

For shy people or people that don't do well at a party, etc, those ads were a gift from God.

Then the Dallas Observer decided to go with those ___ phone ads and they worked so-so.

I suspect that this paper is owed by a major publishing company (it is now that I remember or was at the time the Personals changed). But if you check the hard copies of other alternative papers like the Austin Chronicle, they STILL at least have the phone ads. And I am talking about an actual ad with a phone code. Not one of these money making schemes that just gives you a 900 number and MAYBE your ad is in print for a while.

LONG LIVE THE WRITTEN PERSONALS.
