A couple years ago, another netizen told me about Meetup.com, so I went there in search of singles groups. What a disappointment... back then, the singles on Meetup seemed to be just getting off the ground. Scrolling through their meetings they had scheduled, I got the feeling that these were a bunch of people making a half-hearted effort to throw their own singles parties... a real hit-or-miss thing.

But then some time at the end of last month, I went back to the Meetup site and looked up "singles" again. WOW. Looks like these people have really learned how to put 2+2 together since then, by applying social networking to the singles scene. A few singles who've been burned by dating services have joined the Meetup groups, and are figuring out how to use it effectively. Dating services aren't going to be happy about that.

Personally, I hope enough of us singles join Meetup to turn it into THEE happening place (the ultimate "out", if you will), and the dating services will be laughed out of business. ;D
