Has anybody else been scammed?

I’ve been hanging about on a dating site and using a few dating apps, and I’ve recently ended up being scammed by someone who claimed he had a PhD in Chemistry and worked as a technical tutor at Middlesex University. He also said he was the owner of a place called Mercer Court on Candle Street in London.
Some of the stuff I looked up online suggested he’s not a chemist at all, despite everything he claimed.
None of what he told me turned out to be true. He doesn’t own anything like he claimed — he’s just renting some run‑down flat 98 at 6 Candle Street, E1 4SG London, nothing like the picture he tried to paint.
He used the phone number +44789574641 to register in various dating apps.
Didn’t take long before he started sending me these pitiful messages about his mum in Mexico being seriously ill, and how he desperately needed money to go and see her and sort out her treatment, otherwise she apparently wouldn’t survive without his “medicine”.
This bloke uses all sorts of different nicknames such as Leonardo Pantoja, Leonardo Pantoja Munoz or Leonardo Pantoja Muñoz and he is a scammer and a thief. From what I’ve gathered, he’s been in trouble before — things like nicking stuff from his university library and getting caught up in identity and credit‑card theft and evidence regarding an illicit drug trafficking network.
It turns out that some of the things I’ve found online suggest he’s actually a Mexican citizen linked to different Mexican drug cartels. No idea how much of that is the complete dark information, but it certainly doesn’t match the story he was trying to sell me.
