TRUE.com : Wink Mining and a bad attitude.
I'd be willing to bet my subscription charge that TRUE and probably many other sites do something I like to call "Wink Mining." If you are a chick, and you sign up, you agree (maybe in the fine print) to have periodic and possibly random winks automatically sent out
from your profile. Of course they don't hold you responsible for any automatically sent winks. For all I know they don't even ask permission. I can think of several ways they could get away with it.
TRUE is a
scam, simple as that. Just look at how they advertize! Their web-ads look more like beer ads. They don't even make a half-hearted attempt subtlety.
Have fun trying to cancel. TRUE.com is the
only site I've
ever seen that doesn't allow you to cancel via the website. This is a blatant tactic to discourage cancelling. They probably figure "If people are shy enough to come to online dating, how could hey handle the confrontational aspect of actually telling a live person 'cancel my subscription.'" This is a manipulative and underhanded practice.
The customer service reps are pushy, argumentative and disrespectful. I callled 3 times before they finally stopped charging my card. When I was a member. I had to call every month to remind them to credit my account and re-charge me the discounted rate. I believe they were hoping I wouldn't notice.
If you still want to stay with TRUE, even after reading this post,
at least call them and tell them you want to cancel because it's too expensive and they'll offer you a better rate ($9.99 a monh, for me.) That's a lot more reasonable than the default $49.99, and all you haev to do is ask!
