This is some helpful information, but also I want to warn against the hyper vigilance as well. I am a REAL person, and every dating profile I have ever created was honest, used real pictures of ME (recent ones) were written by me, contained only true information. On one site I got too many responses to reply to in a timely manner (I have a job and don't just sit around waiting for someone to write to me on a dating site)... Many people were SO quick to accuse me of being "fake" because I didn't answer fast enough. In the event someone got in touch who was not a good match (I am not overly demanding but someone vastly older, or never employed, or cannot speak English, etc is not going to be a match) and I VERY gently let them know that (since often they were threatening to report me as a fake for not replying) I get again accused of being a fake. I was even removed from a dating site for exactly this. I am not a model looks-wise, but am a reasonably attractive person, I suppose, and I write well enough that my profiles are interesting, sincere, engaging. I should not be punished for this, but am - all the time, by people so terrified and angry about the fake profile thing that it makes it impossible for some women.
