How Do You Gracefully Reject an Online Date?

Hi KellySeal,

Interesting segment, which I have thought about quite often since I started online dating. I represent the other side where I expressed interest, but did not receive a response. I use to also think in the same terms the person of interest should provide the courtesy to provide a response back regardless too.

However, ever since I interacted with one particular person from my associated dating site (although nothing ever blossomed after our encounter) my thought process has changed. Women have a tendency to get messaged far more than men typically do. As a male who would be lucky to get a few messages in a week I cannot exactly fathom checking a dating inbox to find a slew of messages from unique individuals every day. A lot of us have other things to do than to look at each and every message. Even if the person was to provide a reponse not all people react the same way either. I do not demonstrate any ill will if I am met with silence, but not everyone conducts themselves the same way. A receiver only needs one really nasty e-mail response to discourage him/her from further courtesy responses.

I suppose my mindset nowadays is the person on the other end has no obligation towards you. If he/she is really interested you will get a response (unless there is technical issues). Please feel free to send a quick inquiry once more after a couple days if you're still motivated, but if you're not given a response try to shrug this off and move on.
