Every dating site has its own spin on the dating profile format. In this series, I'll take a look at some of the different profile formats and how you can write your best profile for that particular service. SoulGeek is a dating service that caters to only those who describe themselves as geeky.

The main body of the profile contains two 600 character boxes - one to describe yourself, and a second to describe the geek of your dreams. I like that they keep things short and sweet in the main profile, because it leaves room for the geeking out later:

SoulGeek's profile allows you to really geek out and describe all the things that you obsess over - whether that be Star Wars, RPGs, SCA, programming, whatever you like! There's a tendency to get a little longwinded, but on a site as niche as this one, you're among people who understand, so I say go for it!

If you check off that you love SCI-FI in your interests, there will be two boxes in your profile that you can choose to fill out. The first asks why you like sci-fi and the second asks you to list some of your favorite sci-fi movies, shows, books, authors, etc. You'll get similar boxes for all other geeky interests you checked off. You don't have to fill these out! It's all up to you.

One of the niftiest questions asked on the SoulGeek profile is this one:

"Ideally if I could be any character from the world of Sci-Fi, Horror, Fantasy and Animation movies, television, comics, games, literature, etc… I would be ______________________ but in reality I'm more like _______________."

So if you'd love to be Han Solo, but see yourself more like JarJar Binks, here's the place to admit your aspirations (and your shame). What's awesome about this question is that it only leaves enough space to put the name, not any sort of explanation. A perfect first contact email for SoulGeek would be to ask the person why they chose those particular characters. It's a pretty low-key and easy way to break the ice - which is where all great dates start!

SoulGeek allows up to four profile photos. As a dating member, you must have at least one real photo of yourself. After you've had a real picture approved, you can upload your avatar of choice. (Non-dating members can choose to only upload an avatar and no real pictures.) I recommend one close-up of your face, one full body shot, and two other pictures of your choice - but hey, it's a geek niche site, so why not pictures of yourself geeking out? (My SoulGeek - non-dating!! - profile shows me and my Dungeons & Dragons books.)

SoulGeek takes a little longer to approve your profile than the big box sites, but that's because a real person checks out your profile before sending it live. SoulGeek is passionate about the level of customer service they provide for their members and do not let fakes, spammers, or scammers survive on their site! Always nice to know that your dating site is looking out for you, isn't it?
