From Match.com, to OkCupid, to eHarmony, to Facebook, the Internet offers plenty of services to help you find love.
But what about when love turns sour, and your relationship comes to an end?
It turns out the Internet has tools for that too. And no, I'm not just talking about unfollowing your ex on Twitter.
More and more, sites are springing up to bring solace to the newly single. Some provide advice on how to handle a recent breakup. Others simply offer a forum in which to vent about the man or woman who did you wrong. And others cater to more unique needs, like selling presents gifted to you by your ex.
One such site is Pink Kisses which, for $10 a month, provides users with daily emails that detail an "action plan" that gives them step by step advice for moving on. Jilted lovers on Pink Kisses can also purchase sessions with a life coach or stylist, or sign up for a service that sends uplifting text messages to their phone. My personal favorite feature, however, is free: if you're feeling particularly vengeful, you can upload a photo of your former love and watch it go up in flames. If that doesn't put a smile on your recently-single face, I don't know what will!
If it's advice you seek, the Internet is filled with breakup experts ready to help you cope. Check out TheBreakupBlog for advice from men, for men. Feminine wisdom can be found on BrokenheartedGirl.com. For gender-neutral advice, consider LovesAGame.com or SoYouveBeenDumped.com, which features articles and tips for "getting over it," a page about breakup lines that's guaranteed to make you laugh, and a list of the "Best Break Up Books Ever" for further reading.
When your friends start getting sick of listening to you complain about your ex, head over to sites like IHateMyExSoMuch.com, I-Hate-My-Ex.com (which has a great animated intro and a "Scumbag Ex Of The Month" award), or You Broke Up How?, which allow users to anonymously rant about their ex's shortcomings and the trials and tribulations they've been forced to endure.
If you're the type who prefers to laugh through the pain, then it's FindGift.com you want, which helps users find creative gifts for breakups and divorces. A night spent watching "Break-ups: The Series," a Web anthology of short films from Chicago's Second City comedy group, will also provide some much-needed comic relief.
And last, but not least, check out ExboyfriendJewelry.com, the hilarious - but extremely practical - brainchild of Megahn Perry and her stepmother, Marie Perry. The site (Slogan: "You don't want it. He can't have it back.") allows users to pawn old presents under categories like "Rings," "Charms and Pendants," and "Gifts That Should Have Been Jewelry." All you have to do is register, tell your story, and start selling. The site caters to a niche that desperately needed to be filled - after all, the younger Perry says, "One in every 10 relationships ends in heart-shaped jewelry."
