Don't get sucked in by "what have you got to lose-freebie dating sites just gather dust unless they are supported by many users and attract people with a shred of decency. Otherwise you may not hear from a "prospect" except for once a month, he/she may have something to hide, or is just playing around. Many freebies no matter how attractive on the outside, cannot compete with the global fat cats like Match.com and American Singles. It's like the mom and pop stores that lose out to Wal-Mart and Target.
Some of you may have heard of Matchdoctor.com. DO NOT BOTHER,it is a waste of time for reasons which I will give below
1) 9 out of 10 members is married or bisexual (many are just as bold in declaring this on-screen, which tells you that no respectable human being spends much time on MatchDoctor.
2) 9 out of 10 members does not even bother to put up a picture off themselves (surprise, there hiding something)
3)their system just use those annoying ads as an excuse to try to get users to "upgrade" their membership (i'm sure)What kind of an inhumane parasite tells people "Get rid of annoying banner ads! Upgrade to a paid membership!" Is that really going to change the output that much? Think about it.That is just plain stupid!! No sane web dater would pay one red cent to not have to look at advertisements.Spend money just to keep hearing form and looking at the same old losers?? Real brilliant. H8 MatchDoctor!!
4) The navigation and search tools are shitty; people hardly bother to read what I'm looking for and that "essay page" is never used
5) User profiles are half-baked with no thought put into them. "Nice, funny guy, looking for the same," Well, buddy, I really learned a lot about you.
6) The entire Matchdoctor population is only interested in playing email tag,cyber-sex,or just playing head games. People, get a life. Why should I talk to antisocial dipwads who live five states away when there are plenty of you in my locality? Their database isn't that tiny, and I don't care how nice you seem, I am not interested in a man five states away unless it's for the long haul. (Are we hiding something, fellas, or afraid of being found out if you lived close by?)
7)Profiles are outdated; like people must stick a free profile up there and then forget that they are in the system. Otherwise, why do I only hear from "new" members whenever I do?
8)AdultMatchDoctor, their kinky cousin site, is no different.A lot of the same thing-just shittier clientele. DO I LOOK LIKE I'D LIKE TO HAVE CYBER-SEX WITH ITS LOSERS?? How low can you get if you aren't even there to f*** anybody?? (Besides, I think a lot of MatchDoctor users are sneaking around on AdultMatchDoctor-just a thought..)
Bottom line, free sites are not worth their salt if all they are or become is a safe haven for losers, sociopaths, marrieds and serial net-addicts.What do you have to lose? Lots of your valuable time. At least take the time to talk to a loser that is interested in actually dating you.
MatchDoctor SUCKS!! Just gotta pay to play, cyber-minglers!!

Nah Matchdoctor is actually pretty good...I have met quite a few "normal" people on that site..although there are many many filipinos looking for green cards! But overall a great site for the price..

I haven't tried Matchdoctor, but I think some free sites may be okay.
I have an active account on plentyoffish.com for a couple of months and I've talked to a couple of nice gals on the phone. No dates yet, but that's how these things go.
I really don't see how paying Yahoo for **exactly the same thing** is any better. You pay, you get minimal results. At least this way, you're not paying. And you're more willing to give the site a chance and not worry about it.
A small aside...Yahoo used to be FREE. No joke, kids. For the results it gives, it should still be FREE.

In my experience, the opposite has been true of Matchdoctor.com. Men, as long as you don't come off as a hostile, rude jerk, seem to pretty receptive. There are many users always online - from young to old and in all parts of the country. The site also offers TONS of features, looks nice and provides great service. They constantly are developing new features and tools too. How someone could complain so much about such a progressive and FREE dating site is beyond me.

Complaint about matchdoctor.com

Not only are free sites a waste of time - they are downright dangerous to your wallet and possibly, your personal safety.
For example, Matchdoctor.com will do you the favor of making your profile public information. Which means any criminal in any country can do a browser search based on several parameters and locate your photo and profile. Then the profiler will send you an earnest e-mail telling you that they joined Matchdoctor.com for the sole purpose of contacting you (because you are so special, of course). And next, they will provide a personal yahoo e-mail address for you to respond to (another free service).
Don't think that things will be better if you pay for a subscription. If you cancel your subscription, which I did - better monitor your credit card charges - Matchdoctor.com waited a month and then resumed charging my credit card on a monthly basis.
In my opinion, free sites are not worth the risk. If you value yourself and your wallet, invest in a dating site that will screen out potentially fraudulent suitors before they have the opportunity to contact you.

Mods allow their personal pets to run rampant and rant and rave about nonsense most of the time.
There is no moderator in the chatroom so that is very interesting with all the verbal abuse that takes place on a daily basis - people get their popcorn and sit for hours. Be prepared to be called TWIT the first time you chat - some will be friendly but beware, those are the ones that will get the dirt on you and then turn on you til you are full of mud, slinging back every possible gossip, rumor and innuendo they can imagine.
The forums are an open dialogue of garbage with intelligence never being part of the conversation - just raw negative emotions full of vengence and ignorance. Most know another and have formed their cliques and the mob mentality is evident when anyone that is not welcome to their private territory dares to venture into their santuary. Oh wait, this is the internet and anyone can participate. Well, if you have no life, no friends, no family, then you have to defend your part of the internet where you feel special and harass and chase off anyone new or nice.
And the blog section is full of useful information on person's private pubic shavings and her blooming romance for all to view on utube videos daily ... like anyone cares about an old womans daily bout with her new male friend, unless you like watching people play monopoly and getting drunk or high. That "puke" couldn't find her way out of a paper bag, cannot fact find and writes useless blogs about lies, deceit and haters, when she is the biggest one of all. She has been duped, but what do you expect from someone who spends ALL of her free time on matchdoctor.com?
I dare you to find one nice, normal, well adjusted, friendly, kind and attractive member (of any age) on matchdoctor.com. Even if you paid me $1000/day to view this site, I would have to pass - its such a disaster and now there is talk of the Florida State Attorney General office has opened up a case against them for cyberbullying, cyberstalking and more. If you have evidence of this, please report it to them directly as every bit of information helps to clean up the internet and its bullies, stalkers, hackers and scammers.

Free vs Paying Sites:
I don't know about matchdoctor, never joined them. But I think that paying sites are no different. You can also have a bad profile on a paying site or not upload your picture. Most paying sites do NOT screen their members and do NOT perform background check. A person who joins a paying site might be more serious about dating because he is paying, but it's not fault of a free site that anybody could join it.
A lot of free sites are emerging now but the only problem is that they don't have enough people yet. Thus it's hard to make someone join, even for free. One site like this is LiveDateLove.com, launched in May 2008 and has about 10000 members so far. No fake profile either but if you get a mail from psycho, don't blame them, how they supposed know?
just kidding... This site is actually monitored for spammers and deletes all nude/inappropriate photos.

I tried Plenty of Fish and i will tell you that because it is free it would appear that you have the opportunity to talk to people and make freinds w/o the hastle of pulling out that credit card all the time. The fact is the paying sites are a better bet because they cut away some (not all) of the riff-raff. Whether you have success on paid vs free will not be evident as it will be fate and often luck which determines this...i do believe that paid sites do limit some of the ugly advertzing and often do give you a "cleaner" web site to view and exchange information. The clients may be fewer that on the free sites but they are often more quality involved on A GOOD PAID service.
I have never minded paying for a service as long as there is a Service involved. Dating has no guarantees but many paid sites are now offering some form of guarantee like 3 months or money back as long as you use it regularily and have picture posted etc. Even the idea of that suggests they want you to have some form of success.
Plenty of Fish has given me back virtually 3 responses in 6 months vs 20-30 per month on other paid sites. It hs so many ungly advertizements that it is hard to find things there. Maybe i just have the wrong free site.

Matchdoctor.com is so f**king lame it's not even on the list.
Same crowd every damned day, nobody new stays.
Old, bitter, nasty and ugly people with millions of issues.
Mental illness, abuse and addictions are the norm.
STAY THE HELL AWAY if you want to meet anyone good!!
Worst experience on the net. More of a hate site than dating site.
ps - EF told me to write this piece of s**t
