Gen Z isn’t rejecting dating entirely, they’re rejecting low-quality engagement loops: endless swiping, shallow matches, and conversations that go nowhere. So deletion rates are high because the experience often feels unrewarding, not because people don’t want connection.

Apps like Hinge doing better actually proves the point: when platforms reduce noise and push more intentional interaction, people stay longer.

On the AI side, it’s helpful only if it reduces friction (better profiles, safer interactions, clearer prompts). But if it starts feeling like automation replaces real chemistry, users will likely disengage even more.

So the core issue isn’t “dating apps are dying”, it’s that attention is expensive now, and people won’t stay in systems that don’t quickly feel meaningful.
