Stitch Review

Authored by: Anonymous (Anonymous User) on Friday, February 02 2024 @ 04:26 am
I'm posting this review as someone who has been part for the Stitch Community for just under 2 years. I joined at the beginning of March 2022. I was in a very bad situation at that time, having come out of a long-term relationship with someone with an addiction.
I joined to look for local members in a town I had moved to pre-Covid and activities to go to in different Australian cities and towns that I travel to for work.

Like I'm sure many people do, I started by looking at some people's profiles. I was looking for women and men to make friends with as I'd not met many people in my new area before Covid started. Initially I was a bit disappointed because there were not many people around my area, which is regional town in New South Wales. But I continued to look at profiles and saw that a little bit further afield there were lots of interesting people. What I could see was that people have the option of listing themselves as looking for friendship, looking for relationships, or both. I my own case, both have eventuated via a process of getting to know people mainly through online communications but also through meeting in person at events.

I started investigating the forums on Stitch and that was where I started to connect with other people and get to know them a bit. And when I travelled, I changed my location settings to whatever place I was staying in, so I could see what events were on and also get an idea of the members in those places. I now moderate a couple of forums and convene a private group of friends.

By about 6 months later, I'd gotten to know quite a few online friends, gone to some events, and I had also started talking with a bloke in South Australia, who I "clicked" with. Long story short, we have been living together since late 2022, have travelled together within Australia and overseas, gone through some life crises together (some significant family deaths and other issues), gotten very close to each other's extended families, grand-children and children, friends and etc. We are currently sitting together in a hotel room in Indonesia, as I'm here on a work trip and he's on holiday. We are both very, very happy, neither of us having expected to find a significant and loving relationship of this type, in our 60's. Later this year we are going to meet with a group of other Stitch members overseas and spend time getting to know them in real life after so long talking as online friends.

Stitch, and the people you meet on it, are like any community, in that mostly there are good times and sometimes there are challenges. I have seen arguments between members, friendships formed, people who were unwell dealt with, with compassion, people who are bereaved or otherwise upset supported, occasional bouts of aggressive or bullying posts that were dealt with swiftly; it's not perfect but it's overall positive. If you join, don't be put off by the occasional squabbles on the forums; look to all of the supportive, friendly and caring people you can find there. And actually, even the not-so-great posts are useful, because watching how people interact with each other over a long period in conversations, allows you to see what their personalities are like far more than just reading a profile can.
