Out of a score of 5, I would give Mingle a minus 10 and here is why …

Not thinking when I joined Mingle, I paid a subscription (US$25) for a 3-month trial. I have been on Mingle for 3 months now and have now deactivated my account and deleted my profile. This will seem like a girl’s paradise dream come true but in the 3 months I had 632 guys message me. Sadly the dream is actually a nightmare as literally all, but 2, have been fake profiles.

Within the first 4 weeks I worked out a number of common modus operandi, with most either stating they are US Military serving overseas, doctors in the UN (hot spot of course), or a widowed engineer. All of them within the first half a dozen messages were asking after your hangout address, and from there the rest of your personal details. Often there came a reason that they needed to “borrow” money from you.

I also found that a number would use a major Australian City as their “where from location”. Once you started talking to them then you work out they are not in that place at all ,but rather a doctor or US marine overseas with the US military or the UN overseas. There were also plenty of widowed engineers working as a contractor for some obscure oil mining company.

Over the four weeks I identified and with the evidance reported over 600 false profiles to the administrators – who did zip, zilch, nada, nothing! I guess that’s the price you pay for a site that doesn’t charge to join – it makes it easy (and cheap) for all the scammers to join.

My advice, join for a bit of fun if you must but know that almost everyone (but maybe 1 or 2 out of 600+) who contact you is a scammer.
