I am going through a similar situation. I was just looking for a pen pal - I wanted to write someone who was deployed and maybe didn't have anyone at home to talk to. Like you said, people just ignore what you are looking for. They bully you to start communicating outside of the site. This one guy blew up at me after I requested a picture with a note to prove that he was real. He went on a paranoid tirade about friends and family are distractions... he was really scary. He kept asking me to deactivate my account and I've been suspicious that he has been setting up fake accounts to see if I will talk to these men - they all write the same and have really generic/barely finished profiles. When I don't answer, every one of them deactivated.
