The most important aspect of eHarmony, rendering it useless, is the fact that they send you matches who haven't used eH for months and years. You will waste your time writing to your "matches", who will never respond, as they are no longer active members of the site. It is weird, but among your matches is anyone who took the personality test, even if they wound up just doing the "free trial" and never returned to the site. In the past eH used to have a "last seen" feature, allowing you to at least know if your match was active, but now they conveniently removed this feature. Thus, eHarmony essentially has a huge database of people, some of whom may be even dead for that matter, whose profiles they send to you in 10-match increments! Do not waste your time with this site!

Your comment about the lack of last log-in is right on the mark. It totally invalidates eHarmony as a useful method to meet others. Without this feature, one can never know if a prospect is still active or even, as you mention, still alive. In my opinion, the non-transparency resulting from the lack of a last log-in date for profiles borders on fraud, because there is no way for a prospective subscriber to evaluate the number of potential people he/she will meet via eHarmony.

Interesting. I wondered what was going on with e-harmony. I have used it in the past, and have had a few long-term relationships as a result. But, now, it is just awful. I suspect you're right that the matches are people in the database from ages ago. The limited communication I have had had has not worked very well. Recently, the person was contacting me, nudging me, from what the e-mail alert told me. I went to the site and can't find any evidence of the person. I access it from my phone as well a the web site, and I feel like the two formats don't communicate with one another. It really has gotten awful and I have been wondering, like the other poster, whether they are about to go under. Too bad, as it used to be a good site about 5 years ago.

I totally agree. I was a member of eharmony for a couple of years, and was extremely frustrated to find that most of the "matches" were no longer members. I'm guessing 99% of them had joined during a "free weekend" and then got placed into the system, where their profiles were then forever being sent to people as matches. It was a complete waste of time and money. And there was no way to search the site for people - You could only see and communicate with designated matches - most of whom were no longer members. I'm honestly surprised the site is still going.

I'm now on match.com. Although it's not perfect - at least you can search the site and see who is an active member (because it tells you when they last signed in) and it tells you when they read your message.

I wished I had read your review before recently rejoining! 18 months ago it was pretty good, the iPad app worked well and although if you didn't log in often the number of matches could quickly be overwhelming I made some nice pen friends but nothing more! It was fun though and useable. I sign back up again only to find I have 1100 matches from last time to trawl through - no way of sifting through quickly which ones are even active and no new matches at all! The app is so bad that my tablet is telling me to remove it as it crashed 10 times in around 24hrs!! I'm getting my refund before it's too late as I think something strange is going on - like they might be about to go under or something! If they carry on as they are it won't be long!
