Is Sparks fizzling out?

A few major notes:

1) According to your article, JDate has 750,000 "active profiles." What constitutes an active profile, someone who has logged in during the past week, past month, past year, or any account that hasn't been terminated.

2) Spark Networks' First Quarter results from 2010 show that Jdate only has 92,325 paid members. Why is that significant? Only paid members can send or receive emails. Unpaid members (or over 80% of JDates "active profiles") cannot send or receive emails, do not know who contacted them, and can only respond to IMs sent to them if they're online when the IM gets sent.

3) Spark Networks has announced for several quarters now that they're only going to focus on their top niches, JDate, plus 2-3 of their other niche brands. They are going to reduce their advertising spend on all but the top niche brands.

4) Management has also announced that they're going to spend 2010 integrating their platforms. Basically, JDate and Spark.com run on one platform, the rest of their sites run on a completely separate platform. Spark announced that they're going to use the year to integrate into one platform to save money, and hold off on any innovations until next year.
