Sadly I agree with most everything the March 6th poster said. Having tried a few 2-3 month subsriptions over the years. The site has an orthodox Catholic, conservative bent, which for me is a plus.

But I have to agree CM attracts an obnoxious ultra-conservative fringe element, who exercise a disproportionate influence, with no discouragement from the administration. And yes the forums are woefully ill-moderated. The site does post rules to encourage charitable behavior and check some of the tin-foil hat conspiracy theory crowd, but I didn't notice anything being enforced. The forums made me embarrassed to be a practicing Catholic. The other poster is not embellishing. And I am fairly theologically traditional, not a liberal cafeteria Catholic sounding off.

For dating, there are many decent, sane, and serious people there. The difficulty is finding them. CM does not indicate who is a subscriber or when someone was last online. So, to newcomes it gives the deceptive appearance of there being a lot more active profiles than there are. As with other dating sites, you also get a lot of the "usual suspects" you eventually realize are endlessly sitting on there and never leave to seriously date anyone. I ended up only having 3 single meetings with people over multiple subscriptions. Not a notably lively or responsive crowd there.

By contrast, I've dated (some long-term) a number of practicing Catholics just using Match (of all things).

If you are a serious Catholic, CM is probably worth a shot. There are a pleasant, sane, fun people there of your background. For me CM was interesting but a wash for actual dating. Plus I would not be wild about giving more money to a putatively Catholic site that hosts less than up front administrative practices (detailed above). Good luck all.
