What is the best Dating Web Site?

Authored by: Anonymous (Anonymous User) on Thursday, April 29 2004 @ 10:59 pm
What is the best Dating Web Site? you may ask. Are any of them really any good? The toughest part about any of them is getting a woman to respond, even to a really nice profile with nice pictures, with a witty and charming introduction. I managed to find a nice girlfriend (I won't tell you how long it took) who says she loves me, but it took a fairly clever ruse to get her to respond to my enquiries at all. Now she wonders why she didn't notice me in the first place.

I don't get it. But I'm not going to worry about it any more. Online dating services can be pretty emasculating, and that's a bad thing. Composing dozens of warm, sincere emails that never get so much as an acknowledgement is a lot of wasted effort.

Good luck to all the guys. You're gonna need it.

Agreed. I believe the woman who wrote about women who get a lot of email. But I can't help but wonder, when I send out 10-15 a month, if there aren't just a lot of rude women out there. And I put effort into each, and I have gotten responses and one date so far. But come on ladies, do your gender some credit and just click on the "No Thanks" link if you're not interested. Is that so hard?

I have met some interesting men. There are lots of really nice men and lots of creepy ones on these sites. Just like life, you have to filter through frogs to find your prince. A bit of advice....1) If you are truly interested in having a relationship - do not lie or post outdated pics of yourself. Bait and switch does not work in the dating scene. 2) Don't leave your profile blank, it makes us wonder if you are boring or illiterate. 3) If you mention “slim or thin in what you are looking for most women will not answer. (Most of us think we are overweight even when we aren't). I posted that I wasn't interested in a long distance relationship and guys from all over the world still sent me e-mails. Give us a break guys. Unless you are willing to pick up and move so that we can start dating and see if we click - don't clutter my in box. It wastes my time and yours.

Other things that women can do to make their profiles more appealing:

- Don't show pictures of you and some guy's arm around you, even if you clipped him out. It looks like you haven't had any sort of life in that the only pictures you have are ones with your ex-boyfriend. This would be attractive only for guys looking for women who aren't independent and only have been in overly dependent relationships.
- Don't show goofy pictures with your tongue stuck out. It's often not flattering and it shows guys that you are not taking the whole online dating process seriously. We are most attracted to those who put up flattering photos, surprise, surprise. Your personality is something to be discovered when we meet you. Why not keep your tongue in your mouth until then?
- "Must Love Dogs" requirements. Thanks for putting this in your profile, because women with dogs are a pain in the ass. It appears as though you couldn't wait to have kids, so you took on a high maintenance relationship that will make one with the guy a high maintenance relationship. Every time you go out, the dog's needs have to be attended to. Cats are ok.
- Don't ignore us when we take the time to write. Just tell us we're not your type and we'll move on. Guys are used to it and it shouldn't hurt our feelings, as most people are not attractive to us either. Ignoring us shows that you are not a very nice person and when we meet you in public or at a party, we'll not think well of you.
- State the age range of the guys you are interested in, so we don't waste our time writing you.

This is just a note for all the guys who complained about women not responding to their emails. Take a look at what you wrote. Would you say that to a woman in person? If you take the time to show that you've read her profile, likely she will respond, but I know from past experience 95% of the emails I got said "Nice profile. Wanna go out." Um, no. And I would likley give you the same response if you tried that in person. I'm a very nice person and not rude, but I'm also not desperate for attention and willing to throw myself at any guy who can click Send. If you want a response, show me you're worth talking to.

Match= close, but no "cigar" (i do not smoke though). Seriously, the Longest relationship i have had was someone i had met through match.
The shortest was on y! personals (until all the email addresses were censored, so i could no longer use their free services, which the site keeps spamming me with newsletters about!).
I don't know how certain sites got such high ratings since they are in fact the lousiest sites around and one site i won't dare touch or name, because i heard from a few reliable sources that the site (yes, i bet you know what E-H stands for) has a tendency to refuse people because of "uniqueness".
Anyways,
Even if i state an age range there is no guarrentee that men will pay any attention to it or even bother to read it, because either they are overworked or illiterate or even just plain shallow!
The ones who did approach me on American Singles were mostly paid customers who were men old enough to be my father! Either these men were dirty creeps or were illiterate, but they paid for their service unlike the younger penny-pinching counterparts that i had struggled to contact with!
Come on!
Pay up or find a free service!
Don't forget to delete your old profiles!

Sincerely,
A very frustrated lonely young woman

I found it easy to use online dating services. I met few women on it. But it wasn't until e-harmony that i found my perfect match. People try and doctor them selves up and that is why it doens't work.

Oh my God. Stop whining. I found online dating to be ridiculously easy. You can filter by many different characteristics that are important to you, and end up with a nice pool of eligible women. I posted a profile with no picture, and I got numerous emails from attractive, educated women, with no real baggage. I suspect that the people who whine about dating online are the same people who whine about dating in general. Maybe an overall change of attitude (just perhaps YOU have some baggage yourself) would help?

After meeting a half dozen women, I really clicked with one, a beautiful intelligent woman, and two years later, we're married. I have friends for whom online dating has worked, too. It's better than the gym, better than a bar, better than most other ways to meet the opposite sex, at least for anybody older than 22!

Sorry to hear your experience: can't help but wonder what the ruse was??
If it helps, what you described as the guy's experience is EXACTLY how it feels from the woman's perspective too. Maybe these services are really a clever way to get us all to hate each other? I've learned to not let it get to me too much, but the overall impression I've gotten of the men out there looking has been pretty poor. They can't all be as bad as they come across--I hope.

What is the best Dating Web Site?

Authored by: Anonymous (Anonymous User) on Friday, June 11 2004 @ 11:13 pm
I used match.com for about 3 months (I had used matchmaker in the past) before I was lucky enough to meet a man with whom I connected successfully. Based on my experience, any woman with a detailed profile that displays at least some intelligence, humor, and sincerity will result in gobs of emails in her inbox. I'm neither the best looking woman in the world, nor the most carefree, but I averaged 30-50 emails per week.

Chances are, many women using online dating services are professionals who work to support themselves and don't have a lot of time. I had to make some hard choices when I had time to open my Match Mail; however, I tried to send at least a thank you for writing message if I was not interested. I'm not complaining, for I believe that is what you get if you decide to join a HUGE online dating system such as Match.com. Most people will agree that maintaining even the most basic hello--what's your name? dialogues with every person who contacts you can be too much.

So as to not leave you high-and-dry with a bunch of complaints and testimonials, let me give you some advice.

(1) Let a trusted female friend or co-worker (not at work) read your profile - gather her thoughts and recommendations.

(2) This one can be a little scary for some people to do, but I encourage you to try it. Ask for detailed feedback on your profile - not just a rating (if the service offers one). Your willingness to accept advice and to make change, if necessary, may impress the right lady.

(3) Keep in mind the following: "Going out" in cyberspace is typically similar to the in-person dating scene. Men still seem to get stuck making the initial contacts. The online thing does make it a little easier for the woman to initiate contact, but she's usually trying to answser all her mail. In addition to this, I, personally, have found that that men aren't all that responsive to the female's initiation. Maybe the guys I tried to contact were relying more on tradition.

(4) If, after ONE message, you don't hear back from the ladies whose profiles truly interest you, try sending a just-making-sure-you-got-my-first-message email. Keep it short and sweet and free of why-haven't-you-emailed-me? questions. Admittedly, it is easy to forget who is who on these sits. Give her the benefit of the doubt. Maybe she just missed your email. Remember: 2 is persistent and sweet; 3 or more messages start to become creepy. You don't want to be on her blocked senders list, do you?

(5) Try to keep up your confidence level and let it shine through your profile and email messages. Don't assume (and certainly don't write it) that she didn't email you back because you are unattractive or uninteresting, etc. Women appreciate appropriate levels of confidence. Those who are attracted to men who pitty themselves might be more interested in the rescue than the relationship. Chances are, you already have a mom. You don't need another one.

I hope these help. Please know that I wish you luck. We all need it on the journey to finding a great companion.

This review has many good points.
I am VERY frustrated. I was using Match.com
and I connected with 3 guys. Two of them were really positive contacts. Then my phone freaked out and it took me a month to get it working again. But now, Match.com has changed and I can’t find them.

Match.com is the best with a free introduction and has some of the best features, but has a clunky 'dating introduction' form and an internet messenger which is pretty poor. Moreover, there is hardly any point in generating search results containing profiles of people who quit three months ago. Yahoo has the best internet messenger and a larger pool of active users of each gender. American Singles is probably the classiest.

All of them feature a lot of losers, dogs, women with baggage, really nice guys who unfortunately try too hard, and players. There's just no way around it because of the nature of people. It's amazing how many women are on who have made no attempt to take care of themselves, have zero personality, and still want the moon.

It's enough to make a guy want to hang himself with his mouse cord sometimes. All of them promote excessive expectations and pander primarily to desperate men. As in the real world, the best-looking people, no matter what their other depraved personal characteristics, will succeed easily.

Some say love, it is a river, that flows so tenderly.
Some say love, it is a razor, that leaves your soul to bleed.
Some say love, it is a hunger. An endless seeking need.
I say love, it is a flower. And you, it's only seed.

When the night has been too lonely, and the road has been too long,
And you've learned that love is only for the lucky and the strong,
Just remember, that in the winter, far beneath the bitter snows,
Lies a seed, that, with the sun's love, in the springtime, becomes The Rose.
