When someone from an online dating site takes the time to reach out to you, it’s nothing other than flattering. Out of all the people online – they chose you! While some of those people might not be your type, others will pique your interest and have you digging deeper. But are there things you should be looking for in an online dating profile that should give you pause?

We should all learn to trust our guts more. After all – they aren’t called “gut insticts” for nothing. Some people aren’t ready to date and others…well, they’re just not going to be a good fit for you. If you take the time to read just the words that are printed on your screen, people online give you plenty of hints about what they’re really like.

Save yourself the time and trouble and think twice before pursuing the following profiles:

Currently Separated. Yes, that means “legally married.” Do you really want to try to start a relationship with someone who isn’t finished with their current one? Think back to when your last relationship ended – you needed some time to get yourself back together. You deserve to be with someone who is 100% present for your relationship and not still having to focus on closing out “old business.”

I Don’t Want… Ever come across a profile that’s a list of things a person doesn’t want? They’re tiring to read! If a person is more concerned about making that list of things they don’t want than focusing on the positives, you may just be in for a real downer of a first date. Wouldn’t you rather stay home and watch a movie?

The Perfectionist. It’s those profiles that leave no room for interpretation. My date must be this, my date must be that. Granted, we all have things that we prefer in a mate and there are deal breakers for all of us. But if someone is putting out a laundry list of hard and fast absolutes, you’re subjecting yourself to not meeting their unrealistic expectations. Read a few more profiles before accepting a date with these dating drill sergeants.
