Why hasn’t the government stepped in and closed ALL Online date sites?

I am an old poster since online dating began. A around 2004 or so, before the time anyone with a cheap cell phone could access the internet, online dating had few scams and you could actually meet a woman. Now it’s head games, scammers, bots, and sex workers. You have a better chance winning the powerball lottery than meeting a decent woman. All I see are negative complaints. So WHY boesnt the government go after these site?

Many are in Canada where the US has no jurisdiction. But companies like Match are US corporations. They fall within US jurisdiction.

I am NOT a lawyer but I know a lot of law.

There are three parts for a contract to be valid. I will skip over the first two conditions. The last part for a contract to be valid is something called CONSIDERATION.

that means one party, the customer, pays for the services of a dating service. The other part for the contract to be valid is the second party provides a return or in online dating, real opportunities to meet someone.

Online dating does not fulfill the contrat thus voiding the contract.

Online dating is a multi billion business. It MUST BE REGULATED OR ELIMINATED.

I hate government regulation, but get your point. These sites are messy all around.

I, too, used dating sites more than 15 years ago when there were fewer ones and some kind of honorable practices seemed to prevailed. The site listed as the best one used to be personal and probing, and at least gave the pretense of going about the business in a scholarly way. That's changed, and they are living off their old reputation, as I find as I re-enter the singles market.
I've also connected with other "top sites" for seniors and found them to be sloppy and unprofessional. One in particular controls several connected dating sites, is based outside the US, and has a scary sign-up contract which most common users are probably not even aware of.
The bottom line is, every dating site is most eager to have you sign up to give them hundreds or thousands of your money, which you can't retrieve, with a zero guarantee of giving you anything in return. The amount of money that people give them every year must be staggering.

I completely agree with the original poster: the government should act. A good way to motivate legislators would be to promise them a percentage of the money that now goes into these scam sites, as "campaign donations".
