Teri Hatcher, the popular actress who starred in the hit tv series Desperate Housewives and Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, has shared that she was kicked off dating app Hinge after being accused of posting a fake profile.
The actress spoke about the incident in an episode of Getting Grilled with Curtis Stone when he asked her about her dating life.
"I've tried them all, and I tried my latest one. I tried Hinge," she told host Curtis Stone while sharing that she doesn't "meet people," according to People Magazine[*1] .
"You know, I thought, I'm gonna say to the universe that I am open and vulnerable, and I'm putting myself out there. That's what I thought my gesture of joining that Hinge app would be. And then they kicked me off," she shared with Stone.
When asked why, the actress replied, “they thought I was pretending to be Teri Hatcher.”
Hatcher is not the first female celebrity to be kicked off a dating app for catfishing. Sharon Stone experienced the same thing on Bumble a few years back. Both women were accused of posting fake profiles, so the app blocked them.
Hinge and Bumble both apologized and reinstated the actresses after the fallouts, but so far, neither one seems particularly interested in picking up where the apps left them off.
Hatcher said on Getting Grilled: "I'm definitely done with the dating apps, and I feel like if there's any way I'll go somewhere and meet someone, that's what it's gonna have to be, but honestly, I'm happy. I have a really full life, a really busy life. I have beautiful friends. I, you know, it's fine. I don't need a man. I have a cat."
Still, it’s not a good look for the dating apps. Many celebrities have joined Raya to avoid this type of problem and also to choose from a vetted list of matches. (Criteria to join is tough: members have to boast a certain number of social media followers or have some type of celebrity status.)
Hatcher just celebrated her 59th birthday and took to Instagram to post how she was approaching the rest of her life:
“Goodbye 58 Hello 59. What an amazing day I’ve spent in nature with loved ones…cold ocean, warm hearts, moving, talking , laughing. With age comes the deepest sense of acceptance and freedom, appreciation and gratitude and the energy and ambition to do all that you can in and for this world and the people in it. Grateful for each day and the opportunities it brings. My heart is full…”
