Ahead of Valentine’s Day, Tinder has partnered with food brand Knorr to encourage users to highlight cooking skills on their Tinder profiles. A whopping 93 percent of Gen Z Tinder users find a date’s ability to cook attractive.

According to Design Rush, the new campaign encourages Tinder users to “unlock their green flag” by touting their ability to cook in profiles and hopefully sparking conversation. Knorr is also helping Tinder users get inspired by offering recipes and cooking tips on TikTok and Instagram leading up to Valentine’s Day under the campaign hashtag #UnlockYourGreenFlag.

According to the joint press release[*1] , Knorr and Tinder conducted a study of users to find that 63 percent are more likely to swipe right on someone with cooking listed as interest. And about 28 percent of singles said they won’t consider dating someone who can’t cook.

The release also noted that 79 percent of respondents said they would more likely agree to another date if they were cooked an amazing meal. But timing is important - most people agree that cooking on a first date might be a little too much, but 32 percent said the second date is a good option.

The study also found that 56 percent view cooking as a sign of care, 55 percent view it as a sign of independence, and 52 percent view cooking as a sign of thoughtfulness, which are all traits that are highly valuable when seeking a partner.

Tinder is looking for new ways to attract Gen Z daters after many are turning off dating apps. The company’s last big campaign featured TikTok influencers who talked about their experiences dating on the app, a big pull for Gen Z singles.

Using social media to encourage people to share experiences is a powerful marketing tool with Gen Z, and the new Valentine’s Day Green Flag campaign is a step towards generating more interest in Tinder.

Devyn Simone, Tinder's Resident Relationships Expert said in the release: "Our recent Green Flag Study shows that dating has become more challenging, with 91% of men and 94% of women agreeing it's tougher than ever.”

Simone continued: "In a time when it can feel like we're surrounded by red flags, people are craving something positive and universal—like cooking. Cooking is the ultimate green flag because it's more than just a skill; it's a way to connect, show creativity, and demonstrate care for others. It's no surprise that singles are turning to the kitchen as a place to spark new connections."
