Dating app Tinder has partnered with Peacock streaming service to launch “Horror Movies” as an in-app Interest and also to host private date night screenings for horror movie fans.
The new Horror Movies Interest badge Tinder is adding allows its users to filter and search for those who share a love of scary films, according to Tinder’s press release[*1] . In addition, Peacock is adding a new dedicated “For You and Boo” date night collection to its service, which will be available starting October 5th.
To add the new interest badge to their profiles, users can go to “edit profile” and scroll down through the interests to find “Horror Movies,” and select it. Once added, Tinder users will also be eligible for an exclusive in-app offer, but only between October 4 and October 31.
For the promotion, the two companies also hosted the “ultimate horror movie date night” in select cities including New York, Los Angeles, and Chicago on Friday October 13th according to Tinder’s press release.
In advance of the promotion, the companies teamed up to survey Tinder users about their fascination with all things horror, after the dating app discovered almost half of daters (49 percent) say that their date’s interest in horror films signals a deeper compatibility. It also turns out that 63 percent of those surveyed agreed that watching horror movies together is a great date activity.
In fact, 69 percent said that horror was the most preferred movie genre that respondents wanted to watch on a date, just behind comedies at 71 percent. And respondents were 1.5 times more likely to choose a horror flick over a rom-com, with Halloween taking the top spot for horror movie franchises to watch with a date. The second most popular franchise was Texas Chainsaw Massacres and Chucky, with The Purge and Saw rounding out the list at fourth and fifth.
Fifty-one percent of survey respondents felt the greatest benefits of watching a horror movie with a date included the opportunity to get physically closer, followed by 46 percent who said it was sharing a thrilling experience and enjoying a sense of adrenaline. Forty-three percent felt that it helped break the ice in a fun way.
This isn’t the first promotion Tinder has done with Peacock. Earlier this summer, the companies offered Tinder users a three-month free subscription to the streaming service. The companies surveyed 1,000 Tinder users for their joint study on dating dynamics, horror film preferences, and the relationship between dating and horror film watching.
