OkCupid App Introduces Stacks

Dating app OkCupid announced a redesign for its mobile app, which includes a new feature called Stacks to help users better sort through profiles.

Stacks organizes dater profiles into categories for easy browsing, according to CNet[*1] . Some of the categories available in the free version of the app include who’s nearby, online, or recommended. Another category the company highlighted that’s also available to all users is called “Question Pros,” and includes the profiles of daters who have answered a higher number of questions on the app than the average user.

OkCupid says that Question Pros are more serious about their searches and finding long-term relationships, because they are more willing to share and put themselves out there to see who best matches with them. Since many of OkCupid’s users are interested in the political beliefs of other users and use political questions as a filter for deciding who to pursue, Question Pros might benefit those who are willing to state their beliefs up front.

Those who purchase subscriptions have additional categories to sort through in Stacks, including who just signed up for the service, who is popular, and who might be a good candidate by your match percentage.

"We know that daters are looking for different things at different times, and we want to empower people on OkCupid to choose their own preferences as they match on what matters to them," said OkCupid CEO Ariel Charytan in a statement.

In addition to Stacks, OkCupid recently rolled out a feature that allows all users to be able to state their pronouns on their profiles. In 2018, OkCupid launched this feature specifically for those who did not identify as a man or a woman, but now, everyone can state their pronoun preferences regardless of how they identify. OkCupid said they want to normalize pronoun listing on its dating app so that daters of all genders and sexual preferences feel safe and comfortable on the app.

According to Mashable[*2] , OkCupid added new questions for non-binary and LGBTQ users during Pride month, including: “would you correct someone who calls you by the incorrect pronouns?” Tellingly, 100 percent of respondents answered yes.

"For many people, especially non-binary and transgender daters, there's nothing more personal than our names and pronouns," said Michael Kaye, global communications manager at OkCupid.

More than one million users have opted to add pronouns to their profiles since the feature launched the first week of July. This follows the app’s move to add a Black Lives Matter badge, available for users to add to their profiles to show their support. For more on this service see our OkCupid review.
