Hinge just launched Prompt Feedback, a new feature to help users with profile building. The personalized, AI-driven coaching feature “guides daters to create more meaningful first impressions” according to the company’s website.

Prompt Feedback is Hinge’s first AI-powered coaching feature, and offers personalized advice to help daters improve the responses they give for Prompts. Hinge notes that writing Prompts can be difficult for its users. “On Hinge, 27% of all Prompts are just one word, and 60% of daters admit they struggle to know what to write," the company wrote in its release[*1] .

With Prompt Feedback, when a user writes a response to a prompt, they are given one of three pieces of feedback: “great answer,” “Try a small change,” or “go a little deeper.”

While Prompt Feedback won’t tell users exactly what to say, it does offer some advice. According to PC Magazine[*2] , if a dater types “everything” for the “I’m overly competitive about” prompt, the virtual coach advises: “Try sharing a specific activity you compete in; it adds depth and invites conversation. What’s your favorite competition?”

Of course, dating app users can turn to AI apps like ChatGPT for help in crafting responses and building profiles, which have become popular among dating app users who aren’t sure of what to write.

Users can access Hinge’s Prompt Feedback when reviewing their profiles in settings. The feedback is private, and users can choose whether or not to keep their original answers or update them.

In addition to leveraging AI, the feature is also guided by Hinge’s team of PhD behavioral scientists.

“We’re all familiar with dating app clichés like ‘pineapple on pizza’ or being ‘overly competitive about… everything.’ While these responses are common, they often fall short in showcasing the individuality and creativity that ignite meaningful conversations,” said Logan Ury, Director of Relationship Science at Hinge in the company’s announcement.

She went on to say: “By crafting Prompt responses that highlight your unique quirks and share authentic details about your personality, you can help potential matches get to know the real you. This small shift can make a big difference in finding a connection worth deleting the app for.”

According to PC Magazine, Hinge also says that “liked” text prompts were 47 percent more likely to lead to a date than likes on photos, so utilizing the feature could give daters an edge.

Prompt Feedback is available for free. Still, as more AI-driven features are added to struggling dating apps, they could eventually end up as premium paid features.
