Even the rich and famous have a hard time meeting new people to date. According to Teen Vogue, model and reality TV star Kendall Jenner has a profile up on popular female-centric dating app Bumble.
This isn’t the first time a celebrity has put up a public profile on a dating app. Hillary Duff had a profile on Tinder and was filmed dating a few guys she met on the app for her reality TV show. Lily Allen and Lindsay Lohan have been public about their profiles and experiences using Tinder, too. And Kendall’s older sister Kourtney put a profile on Bumble, and was encouraged by sister Kylie to start looking for dates via the app.
While Tinder’s platform is open and available for all users to initiate communication, Bumble put a little bit of security in place for women to feel comfortable using its app. Instead of allowing guys to reach out and send random messages to its female users, Bumble only allows women to make the first move. Female users initiate all communication with guys that match, in an effort to avoid the unsolicited photos and lude messages that they get from many dating apps. Plus, users have only twenty-four hours to reach out, or the match disappears. This provides incentive for people to check in on a regular basis.
Raya is another dating app that has mostly operated out of the public eye, which is appealing to celebs. In fact, the company is not looking to promote the app to as many users as possible like most dating apps. Instead, it offers an elite clientele of mostly celebrity types, although you can use it if you are a regular person after you meet some criteria, like having a cool or creative occupation (DJ, artist, filmmaker), have a siginificant Instagram following, and have other friends on Raya who can recommend you.
I got the chance to look through Raya thanks to a friend who is on the app, and the profiles are curated much like works of art and your Instagram feed. So it seems the more creative your profile, the more attention you’ll get from other creative types. Rumor has it that celebs like Cara Delevinge, Ruby Rose, Diplo, Moby, and Zach Braff use Raya.
It makes sense for celebs to use dating apps. After all, schedules are hectic and traveling prohibits them from cultivating a long-term relationship easily. But dating apps can be relatively easy and available, making more sense for their busy lives.
So the next time you log on to Tinder or Bumble or even Raya, you never know who you’ll meet.
