I received a note from customer support indicating that as a non-paying member, I would be able to RECEIVE e-mails from paying members, but not respond. And that as a paying member, I could SEND e-mails to non-paying members. He even advised against sending personal information over the internet, such as e-mail addresses.

I have received what appears to be an e-mail, but if I try to open it, I am taken to the 'pay here' page. Same thing happens with 'interest notifications' (which for some reason are all from people hundreds or thousands of miles away).

So the question - IS IT possible to receive e-mail from paying members, as a non-paying member, and vice-versa?? And I mean actually READ them... obviously I can get them into my inbox.

I would be interested to see this customer service email.

As with most other dating sites, MatchMaker.com only allows members to read their emails only once they have paid for a membership. You may be able to SEND e-mails to non-paying members (I don't think so) but they still wouldn't be able to read them until they pay.

Here is the text of the customer service e-mail in question: Dear Member, Thank you for contacting Matchmaker.com Customer Support. We do not list member status on our site for the privacy of our members. Gold Members can send email to anyone they want, however only other Gold Members can reply. Some members choose to include a personal form of contact in the messages they send out. However, we advise you to use caution when distributing such information online. Thank you for your business. Sincerely, Matchmaker.com Customer Support Team Personally, I think it would be a good idea - after all, it would be the paying members that were getting the benefit of being able to contact someone. I asked again - in more specific terms. We'll see how they respond. I did meet someone on this site and w are still sort of friends.

But this was about 6 years ago. This was when the date site actually had free trial peroiosd without giving a credit card.

That is how I met this person -during the free trial.

But now there is no such thing as a free trial . Give out your crdit card and see how hard it is to cancel if you want ot after the trial period.

If the dates sites were not so crooked, they would continue to offer real free trail periods. But they now that today, on line dating is pure BS.

The members are not into dating even if they are paying members. People do not form relationships. Women e mail me and poof, after a few days, they have found someone else and they stop e mailing without so much as a goodbye.

Date sites are the rudest of the rude on line.

And with the exception of datehookup and plentyoffish, I do not know of any real free sites. And these site suck and have the same members year aafter year. why con't people find someone and move on> Because they are not going to actaully date anyone.

Which means, conversely - that as a paid member I can SEND e-mails to unpaid members - as long as they have been one for a week or longer. No - the unpaid member cannot respond inside matchmaker, but I COULD, should the mood strike me, send an actual e-mail address. I considered this very important - because if anyone I were interested in were NOT a paid member... what a waste! bob
